RSE (Relationship and Sex Education)
Dear Parents,
Teachers will be planning to deliver the RSE curriculum to the children within the next few weeks. I attach here a letter explaining about our approach to teaching of RSE. I also include an information pack for parents, a parental guide to RSE and the right to withdraw form.
Please take the time to read through the materials.
If you have any questions please contact either myself or the class teacher and we will endeavour to answer those for you.

Visit to Telford Mosque
On Monday, the Year 5 children will be attending Telford Mosque. This trip has been set up through our link with Hollinswood Multicultural Service and has been planned to follow up on the Year 5 Beliefs and Values topic of Islam.
During the visit, the children will have an opportunity to explore the Mosque, making comparisons between the building and a Christian church, ask questions to the Imam and also be able to make links between the classroom-based learning they have done and what this looks like in reality. This is a really exciting opportunity for the children and one we are very much looking forward to.
For the upcoming visit to the mosque, the children will be required to come to school prepared with the following:
- School uniform is appropriate for visiting the mosque however as much skin as possible needs to be covered. For example: tights to be worn, leggings, jumpers/cardigans (down to wrists).
- All children are required to wear a head covering: girls are required to wear a scarf to cover their hair. Boys are required to bring a hat or cap to cover their hair also.

Dear Parent Carer
We are pleased to advise you that your child’s school is participating in the Partnership for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools (PINS) programme, which aims to improve support for children with additional needs.
Please complete our survey here: https://forms.office.com/e/MpqRrBVbGs
The Parent Carer Survey to support the Partnership for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools (PINS) project.
This survey is part of the Partnership for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools (PINS) funded by NHS England in partnership with the Department of Education, Department for Health and Social Care and the National Network of Parent Carer Forums (NNPCF). The survey is open until 19th June 2024.
The purpose of the project is to improve the experience of mainstream school for children who may have an additional educational need. The information from the survey will be used to understand the current strengths and potential areas of improvement in a school.
The survey is for all parents and carers of children attending schools participating in the project. If you have more than one child attend the school, then you may complete the survey for the number of children you have attending the school.
We will be hosting Parent Carer ‘Coffee Mornings’ in the school and we will be starting these in the new School Term.
Best Regards

Active SMiles
Active SMiles – Application Deadline!
Following on from the information we sent-out on xxxx, the deadline for expressions of interest in the Active SMiles active commuting project is 9am on Monday 10th June, with the scheme running from the 17th June to the 12th July.
A quick reminder of how the scheme works:
- The aim is to walk, scoot or cycle to or from school at least 10 times over this period, ditching the car and experiencing the benefits of active travel. For this, you’ll receive a £50 supermarket voucher.
- A commute is either to or from school, so if you go from home to school and back again on the same day, that will count as 2 commutes.
- If you don’t manage to meet the target of 10 commutes, you’ll still be rewarded but will lose £5 for every commute short of 10 you didn’t manage to do, so for example if you achieved 8 commutes you’d get £40.
- Support will be provided by us in the Health Protection Hub at the Council if you need it. We want you to succeed!
- You’ll need to create a free account on the fitness tracking app Strava, following our full, easy-to-follow instructions. You’ll then need to record your commutes on your ‘phone using the Strava app. This is simply so your active commutes can be verified before the rewards are issued. The app is free in its basic form
- Travelling to or from a railway station or bus depot counts as a commute provided the minimum distances below are achieved
- The minimum distance to count as a commute is 0.5 miles walking or 1 mile cycling
- You will be asked to complete a 5 minute survey after the project period has ended
- Rewards will be distributed as soon as the verification has taken place and the survey has been completed
Otherwise, email any expressions of interest (or questions) to HealthProtectionHub@telford.gov.uk – act quickly as spaces are limited!*
*Selection criteria will apply if over-subscribed; a “space” is for one family, so multiple children at the same school actively commuting will only attract one £50 offer (but would make selection more likely in the event of over-subscription) Priority will be given to those children/families who don’t currently actively commute to school.
URGENT Y5 Mosque Trip
We are currently awaiting more than half of consent requests for Y5 regarding the trip next Monday to the Mosque, which is heavily linked with our B&V topic this term. If we do not receive ParentPay consent by Thursday, your child will be unable to attend our Year 5 visit.
