Reading Newsletter
Please find here the new Reading Newsletter.
We send out a new edition of our Reading Newsletter every half term.
We encourage you to share it with the children at home as part of our commitment to instilling in the children a love of reading. Talking about books, sharing book recommendations and reviews is all part of the fun dialogue to be had around reading.
If children wish to share their own book reviews and recommendations then I would love to receive them and can include them in future editions of the Newsletter.
Thank you,
Mr Rotherham
Newport Community Poppy Project
Huge thanks to Newport & District Funeral Service who recently suggested we take part in the Newport Community Project for remembrance. They purchased all the felt and equipment needed for all NJS pupils to produce a poppy for this project.
Well done to our children for their poppies.
Celebrating World Mental Health Day – 10.10.23
Good afternoon everyone,
I am writing a message to let you know that we will be taking part in #HelloYellow on Tuesday 10th October 2023! This is all in support of World Mental Health Day!
We can all struggle with how we’re feeling, but sometimes things get tough and it can be difficult to cope. For so many young people, when this happens, they don’t get the help they need, when they need it. By taking part in #HelloYellow we are supporting mental health and showing young people that we are with them! We want the children to know that our physical health matters but so does our mental health.
Many other schools will be joining in with the #HellowYellow campaign! We are asking the children to wear one yellow item of clothing on TUESDAY 10TH OCTOBER! We will be wearing yellow to raise awareness for mental health and to show children that they matter. Just to clarify, children can swap one item of school uniform for one item of yellow clothing.
The children will be completing a range of activities during the school week within class. We look forward to sharing some of the things we get up to on the school website.
Take care,
Mrs Ollerenshaw
BE BRIGHT BE SEEN DAY: FRIDAY 20TH OCTOBER!
Travel Telford came into school today and led an assembly with the children. The focus was ‘Be Bright Be Seen’ educating the children about ensuring that drivers can see them especially as darker evenings are now setting in.
Children were encouraged to consider a reflector strip, a bright item of clothing or bag that would enable drivers to clearly see them which would help to keep them safe.
Please find below a letter from Travel Telford ahead of our ‘Be Bright Be Seen’ day on Friday 20th October: Be Bright Be Seen Walk – Newport Juniors
Friday 20th October is our ‘Be Bright Be Seen’ day! Children can wear one item of bright clothing to raise awareness. this could be a hi vis vest, a bright hair bobble, illuminous socks… anything! A bright item to be worn with their school uniform.
As always we want to continue to promote the benefits of walking to school…. at 8.20am any parents/carers and children who would like to take part in a ‘Be Bright Be Seen’ walking bus can meet on Shuker Field Car Park to walk to school with the Travel Telford team.
Thank you for your support.

Be Bright, Be Seen Assembly
All children this morning attended an Assembly led by the Travel Telford team. The children were reminded about the importance of being visible as the nights darken. They were supported by our newly appointed
