Travel to school….

Please can we remind our families that we encourage you to walk, scoot or cycle to school.  This is of course a healthier option and helps to keep our roads safer for the journey to school.

Should you have to drive then can we please ask that you avoid Avenue Road and surrounding roads.  Please use nearby car parks such as Shuker Field, Waitrose and B&M and walk from there.

Please can we ask that you do NOT park on Avenue Road or St Nicholas’ Park.

Thank you for your support to keep the journey to school safe for our children.

NJS Online Safety Newsletter October 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

Online Safety Newsletter October 2026 NJS

Welcome to this month’s edition of the NJS Online Safety Newsletter, attached above – please click the link. This month the following items are discussed:

  • AI Companions – AI companions are artificial intelligence services designed to interact with users to simulate
friendship or romantic relationships. There are many different AI companions available, accessible via apps or websites. Many of these apps are intended for adults and have an age rating of 18+. The newsletter offers further information about why children are using them, what should you be aware of, and what you can do about this.
  • Capcut – a video editing tool for over-13s, what should I be aware of, further information.
  • Discord – a social networking app designed for gamers, but now used by many other groups for messaging – rated 17+ – advice about making it safer and what you can use it for – can be used to share files, and is separate to a game’s online ghat, so is unmonitored / unfiltered.
  • Doki Doki Literature Club – a game that, due to its cartoon anime appearance, may appear to be a game suitable for all. However, as the game progresses, it contains much darker and potentially distressing themes. The game includes references to suicide, self-harm and death. Please ensure appropriate parental controls are in place!
  • Happy Tree Friends – another animated series that might look harmless because of its cartoon graphics, but the programme contains violence, death and blood. Clips of Happy Tree Friends are also circulating on social media platforms. Again, please ensure appropriate parental controls are in place.
  • 5 Fun Online Activities – Why not try the following? Why not try the
    following?
    1. Play a game together.
    2. Take a family quiz – it could be around the topic of online safety (e.g. from Childnet) or you could use Kahoot to create your own.
    3. Learn something new – explore BBC Bitesize, National Geographic
    Kids or Khan Academy.
    4. Create something – make a digital drawing or video.
    5. Read an Audio book.

That’s all, this month. As always, if you would like further information, please contact myself or Mrs Moody in the first instance.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mr Butler

World Mental Health Day – Kindness

We talked in assembly today about Kindness as a power to improve mental health. Being kind to ourselves as well as being kind to others. We talked about the ripple effect of spreading kindness. Children will continue this conversation back in the classrooms later today.

Below is a poster the children will be sharing in class and some top tips to support at home.

Thank you,

Mr Rotherham
