NJS’ Road Safety Week with Travel Telford

Another amazing week at NJS this week, celebrating Road Safety week, with Travel Telford supporting us.
As a school we are fully aware of the dangers of the roads and are passionately teaching all of our wonderful children to keep safe! With the support of Travel Telford, Year 3 children have all successfully taken part in Pedestrian Training, learning how to safely walk around our local roads. With the help of Hugh, the children completed practical activities which were classroom based and the in small groups ventured out onto the road. Hugh was impressed by all three classes, who all successfully “passed” and are now aware of all the dangers and how to stay safe!

Year 5 had the chance to take part in Bikeability sessions, again run by Travel Telford. Over 40 of our year 5 children took part in these sessions, which started by being bike confident on the playground, before moving on to local roads. Nick Jeggo from the Bikeability team (and former NJS pupil!) was thrilled with how the children performed on their bikes over the three days & agreed with the other  trainers that all the children should achieve at least level 1  in “cycling proficiency!” A super reward for their hard work.

Year 4 didn’t miss out either! Travel Telford -another team – were in school, completing a “Be Bright, Be Seen” workshop with these children. These sessions, across year 4 were based on Science, identifying which reflective material and colour would be best! The children came to their own conclusions about staying safe and being reflective on these darker nights!

Don’t worry Year 6, you’ve not been left out! We’ll be looking forward to your Road Safety lessons come in July, when we’ve planned to support secondary transition with a session with the Travel team, based on secondary transition and walking to school!
