Tuesday 20th January and Funeral Arrangements for Mrs Green…
Firstly please can I thank all of the families who have shown overwhelming support to the school community over the last couple of weeks: it has meant such a lot. Thank you also to everyone who has arranged to collect their children on Tuesday: we know this has likely caused inconvenience to you but please know how much it means that we have enabled staff to pay their respects to a much loved colleague.
On Tuesday please collect your child from their usual collection place at 12pm.
Please can we ask that on Tuesday our families DO NOT park on Avenue Road: we need to keep the road clear for the funeral procession to enable us to pay our respects. We have requested the presence of officials to support us with this but really appreciate your cooperation.
It was suggested, by some children at NJS, that the children are provided with a green ribbon (like those we wore at Young Voices) that they can wear next week. Of course they don’t have to but we will provide them with a ribbon they can choose to wear.
If you have indicated that you and your child will pay respects on Avenue Road outside NJS around 12.45pm your child will leave school with a small green flag (they will have been given the opportunity to write a message on their flag if they wish to). We are suggesting that as the funeral procession approaches this be a quiet moment of reflection. As the funeral procession comes to a stop outside NJS we would encourage a round of applause as a thank you to Mrs Green for all she has done, over so many years, for our school family. The children can of course also wave their flags. (These are the same flags we have used at Young Voices over several years and are of course a very relevant colour!).
Many families have asked about contributions in memory of Mrs Green: the family have asked for donations to Macmillan Cancer Support. If you would like to make a donation these can be brought in a sealed envelope to the school office: the funeral directors are kindly asking for cash donations only.

If your child would benefit from any support please do contact a member of the team at NJS: grief is hard and we have trained staff and many child friendly resources available in school that will help children to understand how they are feeling.
Once again thank you all so very much for your support.

Young Voices 2026
Thank you to our wonderful School Choir who did Mrs Green so very proud at the Young Voices concert last week. Thank you to Mrs Moody, Mrs Wheat, Mrs Stanley and Mrs Henderson who accompanied the children to this concert. We were also delighted that Mrs Green’s daughter was able to join us to see what her mum had been so excited about each January for so many years.

Pre Loved Uniform Reminder

Newport CE Junior school has signed up to the above platform to enable parents to order pre loved uniform for free!
Simply register using the weblink above. If you see an item you would like please ‘send a message’ stating your child’s full name and class. The school office will then send this item home with your child on the next school day. Easy!
We hope this helps families to access pre loved uniform with ease.
Please remember throughout the year we appreciate donations of pre loved uniform to NJS: please bring it to the school office (green jumpers, logo polo shirts, grey items, fleeces… all appreciated!)
