Year 3 Gurdwara visit
On Monday, children of Year 3 had a fantastic time learning about the Sikh religion, as part of their work on Beliefs and Values. They learned about Sikh dress, the five ‘Ks’ of Sikh religion, sampled some food from the kitchen, and viewed the prayer room – a thoroughly enjoyable and educational visit.

Free School Meals: NEW Eligibility Criteria
Your child, or children, may qualify for Free School Meals if you meet the following criteria:
- you or your partner (if you have one) have a child for whom you receive Child Benefit and who is attending a school or college in Telford and Wrekin,
and you get any of the following:
- Universal Credit and your household income is less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)*,
- Income Support,
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance,
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance,
- Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190),
- Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit),
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.
Each school receives a weekly list showing the names of all children who are entitled to Free School Meals.
* Extended Eligibility Criteria from September 2026
From the start of the 2026/27 school year (September 2026), the Department for Education are extending the entitlement to free school meals to include all children from households in receipt of Universal Credit. The £7,400 a year limit will no longer apply. Applications can be made in advance of the new school year and we will check and notify parents / carers of entitlement.
Transitional Protection
Since 1 April 2018, all existing free school meals claimants have continued to receive free school meals whilst Universal Credit is rolled out. This applies regardless of any change in household circumstances, including if their earnings rise above the threshold during that time or if entitlement to one of the qualifying benefits ends. This is called Transitional Protection. Protections will remain in place until the end of the 2025/26 school year. At the end of the 2025/26 school year, all free school meal claims will be checked for eligibility, and those who do not meet the criteria will not be entitled to free school meals. From September 2026 when these protections end any entitlement will be based on income prior to September 2026 with income checked annually. If during the year a household becomes entitled to one of the qualifying benefits then a new application can be made.

Parent Code of Conduct
Parent-Code-of-Conduct
Please do respect our Parent Code of Conduct which ensures positive relationships are sustained between parents and school staff. We are committed to working with you to achieve the best for your children.
Please especially consider the use of Social Media. Where you do want to bring something to our attention do so with ourselves and work with us to sustain positive relationships. ‘Social Media websites are being used increasingly to fuel campaigns and complaints against schools, Head teachers, school staff, and in some cases other parents/carers or pupils. The Department for Education and Governors of Newport CE Junior School considers the use of Social Media websites in this way as unacceptable.’
Green Day: 13th July 2026
We would really appreciate your plant donations to be brought into school on or before the 13th July. We hope to form a beautiful garden in memory of Mrs Green and very much appreciate the support of our community.
Sponsor forms will also be coming home for children to seek sponsorship from friends and family to support Macmillan Cancer Relief and further development of our garden.

Whole School Diary Dates 29th June – 3rd July

Summer Fair – Thursday 2nd July. 2pm-3pm

All parent’s are welcome to our summer fair. 2-3pm on Thursday 2nd July.
Children can be taken around the fair and then leave earlier with parents if accompanied by a parent.
Parent’s who are unable to attend might want to consider giving their children some spending money so their children can go around the stalls. These children will be dismissed at 3.15pm as normal.
We would love donations for our stall- toys and games, books and any white elephant items (odds and end that you might wish to donate to us)
The jar stall is always popular- please donate a jam jar containing a small gift or some wrapped sweets.
Every class is making a product to sell at the fair- further details to follow on what those products will be!
Thank you,
Mr Rotherham
