Leavers Day

Thursday 16th July is ‘2026 Leavers Day’ at NJS.

We will begin the day with a Leavers Service at St Nicholas’ Church beginning shortly after 9am.  The whole school will attend this event.  Year 6 parents (apologies we cannot accommodate parents from other year groups) are welcomed to attend however this is limited to 2 guests per child please.

We will return to school and the children will enjoy the option to have ‘Leavers Lunch’: a menu they have designed as a celebration of their time at NJS.  This will be the menu for the whole school on this date.

During the afternoon the children will be allowed to have their NJS t shirt signed by members of our school family.  Please send them with pens for this: ‘Sharpie’s’ are ideal!

NJS are then hosting a Leavers Party for the Year 6 children 3.30-5.15pm.  Staff will be organising a wide range of activities for the children to enjoy and we will finish with some chips and an ice pop! Children should wear practical clothing for this party: trainers and comfortable clothes as some activities will be ‘sporty’!  If you are collecting your child please do so from the main yard at 5.15pm.

Wednesday 8th July 3.30-5.30pm Open Evening

We have Open Evening on Wednesday 8th July.  This is an opportunity to come and view your child’s books and chat with your current class teacher.

School will be fully open and you will also be welcomed to visit your child’s new classroom and meet their new teacher.

Entrance and exit for Open Evening will be through the main security gate in front of the office.

We look forward to seeing you!

Free School Meals: NEW Eligibility Criteria

Your child, or children, may qualify for Free School Meals if you meet the following criteria:

  • you or your partner (if you have one) have a child for whom you receive Child Benefit and who is attending a school or college in Telford and Wrekin,

and you get any of the following:

  • Universal Credit and your household income is less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)*,
  • Income Support,
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance,
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance,
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190),
  • Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit),
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.

Each school receives a weekly list showing the names of all children who are entitled to Free School Meals.

* Extended Eligibility Criteria from September 2026

From the start of the 2026/27 school year (September 2026), the Department for Education are extending the entitlement to free school meals to include all children from households in receipt of Universal Credit.  The £7,400 a year limit will no longer apply.  Applications can be made in advance of the new school year and we will check and notify parents / carers of entitlement.

Transitional Protection

Since 1 April 2018, all existing free school meals claimants have continued to receive free school meals whilst Universal Credit is rolled out. This applies regardless of any change in household circumstances, including if their earnings rise above the threshold during that time or if entitlement to one of the qualifying benefits ends. This is called Transitional Protection. Protections will remain in place until the end of the 2025/26 school year. At the end of the 2025/26 school year, all free school meal claims will be checked for eligibility, and those who do not meet the criteria will not be entitled to free school meals. From September 2026 when these protections end any entitlement will be based on income prior to September 2026 with income checked annually.  If during the year a household becomes entitled to one of the qualifying benefits then a new application can be made.

APPLICATIONS CAN BE MADE HERE: https://www.telford.gov.uk/schools-and-learning/school-meals/free-school-meals/

IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR YEAR 6 FAMILIES

There is an important update today from the Department for Education regarding SAT results which we were expecting on Tuesday (7th July).  The statement from them to schools is copied below.

We will now not receive the SAT results until the 16th July.  If we successfully receive them on this date we will share them with you on the 16th or 17th July.  We will of course update you.

We will therefore send end of year Reports home with the children on Monday.  These will include Teacher Assessments but not your child’s SAT results: these will be to follow.

Mrs Moody

Dear colleagues,

I am writing to let you know about a change to the timetable for the release of Key Stage 2 test results this year.

Schools were due to receive their results on 7 July 2026. However, results will now be available on 16 July 2026. As a result, the deadline for schools to apply for reviews of marking or clerical errors will move back to 24 July 2026.

I appreciate that schools have been waiting for these results and that this delay will be frustrating. I also recognise that for schools in Leicester and Leicestershire, this means that results will not be returned until after the end of the summer term. I therefore wanted to write to you directly to explain what has happened and provide reassurance about the results themselves.

Pearson Education Limited, the contractor responsible for the end-to-end administration of the Key Stage 2 tests, has informed us that additional time is needed to ensure the online results portal is ready for schools to access results. The delay relates to the readiness of the system used to make results available to schools.

Importantly, this delay is not due to any concerns about the quality of the tests or the accuracy of results. Test papers have been marked in line with usual processes and the standards maintenance process, which ensures results remain comparable with previous years, has been completed. The Standards and Testing Agency is confident in the quality and accuracy of the results that schools will receive.
I recognise that schools will be frustrated by this delay. I am frustrated too. Schools, pupils and parents should be able to rely on results being delivered on time, and it is unacceptable that this standard has not been met. Pearson has rightly taken full responsibility for the delay and apologised to schools and families.

My priority is now getting results to schools as quickly as possible, and my department is playing an active role in resolving the technical failings that Pearson has overseen.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and professionalism while this issue is resolved.

Yours sincerely,
