May Half Term Holiday Club

Good evening,
I am just writing to ensure that parents know that a holiday club ‘Move it, get active’ runs at Newport Infant School site during May half term, and indeed all the school holidays. Beckie Shaw is the owner of the club, and has been hiring the premises for many years. She has a great team of staff who offer fun games and activities to keep your children occupied during the day. (8.45am-4pm)
However, numbers of children that are being booked on have slowly started to decline and this half term, Beckie currently does not have enough children to make it financially viable for her. We do not want to lose this valuable club, which supports many of our families in allowing them to continue working during school holidays. So, please, if you haven’t booked on yet and want to, please email Beckie straight away to reserve your place. Let’s keep our holiday club running.

Edgmond Hall Residential
Our Year 3 children had a super time on their first NJS residential. The children walked to Edgmond Hall on Monday and returned on Tuesday. The children enjoyed a range of outdoor activities.
Huge thanks to parents for supporting this visit and to the amazing staff team who gave their time to make it possible: Mr Moody, Mrs Porteous, Mr Butler, Mr Lawson, Mrs Cox, Miss Lockwood, Miss Whitehouse and Miss Wood.

Y6 Alton Towers Reminder
Please could all parents of children wishing to go to Alton Towers confirm and pay on ParentPay. We have a lot of children across all 3 classes who so far do not have consent and will be unable to go on the trip. Please could this by done by Thursday PM at the latest as we will putting the children into groups.
Thanks for your support.

Summer Water Safety
The Health Protection Hub at Telford & Wrekin Council have asked us send out some information to you on summer water safety. With the current hot weather, children, particularly older children, may look to go swimming in open water to cool down and have fun. This comes with various risks – cold water shock, currents, hidden underwater dangers and diseases such as Weil’s disease. 46% of drownings occur in the summer months and this rises to 75% amongst 13 – 17-year-olds. Educating children on these dangers is important in preventing tragic incidents.
The Royal Life Saving Society and the Canal & River Trust have some good resources with more information on this to discuss with your children:
General: https://www.rlss.org.uk/Pages/Category/water-safety-information
For secondary school and primary junior-age children: https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/enjoy-the-waterways/safety-on-our-waterways/summer-water-safety
For early years and primary infants: https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/enjoy-the-waterways/safety-on-our-waterways/water-safety-tips-for-parents
In addition, the Royal Life Saving Society UK has a page of water safety education resources for schools which you may wish to utilise in discussions with pupils: https://www.rlss.org.uk/Pages/Category/water-safety-education
Many thanks, and have a great half-term break!
Kind regards
