Online Safety Newsletter November 2022
This month’s edition includes information about the following topics, which I urge you to read:
- Anti-Bullying week 14th-18th Nov – click the link below for more info:
Parents and Carers (anti-bullyingalliance.org.uk) - Roblox – change to age ratings, what to be aware of, plus Parental Controls explained. For Parents – Roblox and Roblox | Parent Zone will give you more info.
- Discord – a parent’s guide and what to be aware of – see the following links:
Setting Up Your Account for Privacy & Safety | Discord
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) from Parents & Educators (discord.com)
What is Discord? A guide for parents and carers | Childnet - Social Media Algorithms – Algorithms influence what we see on social media platforms and predict what type of content we are most likely to interact with, thereby keeping us online for longer. There are benefits but unfortunately there are negatives, which are outlined in the below article:
What are social media algorithms, and how can they be manipulated? — Parent Zone – Parents’ area - Yubo – an aged 13+ social media app where users ‘swipe right’ to match up with others, and they can then livestream with others. This can lead to inappropriate contacts – see the links for more info:
parents-guide.yubo.live
There is a separate link to a young person’s guide to Yubo on the newsletter itself.
Lots to read, all important stuff to know. Please take the time to do this and keep having conversations with your children about their privacy settings / activity online. As always, please contact Mrs Moody or me, if you have any concerns or questions about any of the above.
Kind regards,
Mr Butler
