Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to a new academic year at NJS! This marks the first of 11 Online Safety newsletters, which are designed to be informative and parent-friendly, about topics relating to keeping children safe in the online world. This month’s edition contains information about the following topics:
Online Safety Newsletter Primary September 2026
- Guidance relating to AI-manipulated images – what to do if your child’s image is used inappropriately and advice on privacy settings and help available.
- Managing parental controls for different-aged children.
- Childline under-12s site – written for primary school-aged children.
- YouTube – information about YouTube Kids, supervised accounts, what to be aware of when using YouTube.
- Supporting your child online – The Children’s Commissioner has
published this guide to help you support your child and make starting conversations about their online world easier.
- Nex Playground – info about a new video gaming console, which relies on online subscription models.
- Online Safety Quiz – The NSPCC have created a quiz to test
your child’s knowledge on how to stay safe online. It’s a great way to start a conversation with your child about their online life.
- WhatApp User Names – WhatsApp is introducing the use of
usernames, so people no longer have to share their phone number. Contains an overview of the new features, what you need to consider and steps you can take.
