Keyworker Families

Thank you for your support in keeping our school family safe at this time.

In line with Department for Education guidance we ask that you keep your child at home when you are able: this makes a difference to keeping our community safe and we appreciate your support with this.

For Parents and Carers who have children currently attending school please can you ensure that you are aware that your child MUST NOT attend for school if:

  • They have a cough/temperature or loss of taste or smell.  You will need to isolate the household, book a test for your child and inform school.
  • Someone in the household has a cough/temperature or loss of taste or smell.  The household need to isolate, a test needs to be booked for the symptomatic household member and school informed.  YOUR CHILD MUST NOT ATTEND SCHOOL IN THIS CIRCUMSTANCE.
  • If your child has been asked to isolate by Track and Trace.  They must remain in the home for the period of isolation and school should be informed.

It is VERY important we all follow this guidance and keep members of our school family safe.

Bake with Miss J – Week 3

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you enjoy the recipe for this week… Chilli and Paprika Sausage Rolls! As always, I’ve created a short video to help show some of the process!

PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE AN ADULT SUPPORT/HELP WITH USING THE OVEN, MICROWAVE OR WHEN HANDLING HOT TRAYS. AN ADULT WILL NEED TO SUPPORT OR SUPERVISE WHEN USING KNIVES.

400-500g of sausage meat

Ready rolled puff pastry

A pinch of salt and pepper

1 beaten egg in a bowl

For the following herbs and spices… use ½ or 1 teaspoon.

Garlic Granules

Onion powder

Chilli flakes

Chilli powder

Paprika

Set your oven to 200 degrees, 180 degree (Fan) or gas mark 6.

  1. Set up two baking trays with baking paper. Split your ready rolled pastry in half and one half on each tray. Set these aside until later.
  2. Place the sausage meat into a bowl and add a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until fully combined.
  3. Add the garlic and onion granules to the mixture. Mix again.
  4. Add the chilli flakes, chilli powder and paprika to the mixture. Give the meat a final mix before forming the sausage rolls.

NOTE: If you do not want to use chilli or paprika, you could try Cajun powder or even a mild curry powder.

  1. Place half of the mixture onto one half of the pastry – in a line in the middle. You may need to spread this along the length of the pastry.
  2. Cover the edges with egg – I use a pastry brush for this part.
  3. Fold over the pastry so that it is covering the sausage meat in the middle. Crimp the edges by pressing down with a fork.
  4. Cut the sausage roll into 8. Move them so they have space between them on the tray.
  5. Using a knife, make a slit on the top of the sausage roll.
  6. Use the beaten egg to egg-wash the top of the sausage roll.
  7. Repeat all these steps using the other half of the pastry.
  8. Place the baking trays into the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes.

If you decide to make these sausage rolls, please do send an e-mail to Eloise.jones@taw.org.uk – I would love to see how they turn out!

Stay tuned for another recipe next Friday!

Celebrating Our NJS Artists

Hello children!

How are you all keeping? I have an absolute visual treat to share with you today. I am so proud and impressed to share with you some art work by Brianna Duff in year 6. She is going to be a very talented artist and I know you will be all very impressed when you have a look at her amazing art work. The attention to detail and care that Brianna has taken with her sketches is amazing. The light and shade in her pictures are superb.

Well done Brianna! 🙂 I have loved looking at all the artwork you have sent me children.

Please continue to participate in our art challenges and e-mail me your fabulous work.

Have a lovely weekend children.

Best wishes Mrs Jukes

Parents and Carers of Keyworker Children:

Parents and Carers

We are currently without guidance to inform schools of the expectations for provision over February Half Term and we felt it important to share this with the parents and carers of our keyworker children.

There are likely to be two options:

  1. The government requires schools to offer provision over half term.  In which case we will subsidise that through Activ8 as we have done for school holidays during the pandemic.
  2. The government does not require schools to offer provision.  IF there were viable numbers we could potentially still enable Activ8 to offer provision at a cost to yourselves.

This will be joint work between ourselves and Newport Infant School as always and we are grateful to Activ8 for their continued support of both schools.

Please could you email nicola.moody@taw.org.uk by 5pm on Wednesday 27th January IF you definitely would be interested in half term provision.
