NJS COMMEMORATION OF THE 80th ANNIVERSARY OF THE D DAY LANDINGS
Our school family have taken part in an extended assembly this morning to pay tribute. Children and staff from across the school contributed to this emotive and informative assembly.
*Children read a D Day Poem written by a veteran.
*Mrs Jukes shared a wealth of information, medals, artefacts and photos from her visits to Normandy and her own family history.
*Year 5 staff and children revealed their art work in the hall which is a tribute to ‘Standing with Giants’ (sculptures on Normandy beaches).
*Mr Humphries and Mr Rotherham took six Year 6 children to interview Bill Humphries, a 99 year old D Day Veteran, about his experiences and this group shared his memories with the school.
*A local model maker has lent D Day models to NJS and these are on display in the hall for the children to view today.
*We lit a ‘Lamp of Peace’ and gave thanks.
*And of course….. fish and chips for lunch!
Thanks to all who have worked to mark D Day with our NJS family.
