The Curriculum

Parents and Carers

I hope you are all doing okay with the challenges we currently face with ‘juggling’ work commitments and the care and learning of your children at home.

We are so grateful for the support you have given to us as a school and to the staff who I can honestly say are working incredibly hard to give your children a quality remote learning offer.

I am aware some families are using some additional materials like CGP, BBC etc. which is wonderful.  I know such resources are great for children and help enormously with learning.

However I need to ensure you are aware of the expectation on schools from the Department for Education that the curriculum continues to move forward.  Therefore content that we are delivering through live Teams lessons and our daily learning packs would not be planned to be repeated later in the year.

As always, if children have gaps or need further support we will of course respond to these as appropriate.  Please, where you can, access these materials in the first instance and if you are having difficulty with certain activities please do email the year groups for support.

We appreciate and fully support you in managing the challenges families currently face with the demands of working from home, caring for children and managing learning.  Please find ways to make this manageable for yourselves and to prioritise the wellbeing of you and your children.  Also, encourage your child to develop some independence with their learning so that you can have some time to achieve what you need to (just like we expect them to do in school):

*Show them how to access the daily home learning pack and to watch the videos that are built in so that they can do this themselves.

*Set them timed targets e.g. ‘I’d like you to do those ten Maths questions now and I will be back in twenty minutes to see how you have got on’.

*Establish a timetable for the day so your child knows when they need to work independently due to your commitments with work or a sibling and what they are expected to do at this time.

*Break up the day with some social time where perhaps you eat lunch together or go for a walk.

By doing your best you are doing great for your children.  Thank you for your support at this time.
