Beech’s Base – NJS’ Forest Fun Area
Welcome Back NJS 😊
I hope you have all had a wonderful Summer Holiday. I am looking forward to welcoming you back to Beech’s Base over the next half term and meeting new faces in Year 3 and across the school.
Just some points below to introduce Beech’s Base to new families or a reminder for existing families:
Beech’s Base is our outdoor learning area. It enriches the classroom curriculum offer with activities linked to the topics the children are learning about inside. We do all sorts come rain or shine!
During the week before your visit I will post on the website the classes which will be learning at Beech’s Base.
We are planning for each class to visit once every half term. After a successful trial of the children spending the whole morning and whole afternoon at Beech’s Base we have decided this will continue. The children will need to arrive at school in their Forest Fun clothes (kit below) a change of clean clothing including socks (!) and footwear will be required in a named carrier bag. At Lunchtime the class will return to eat and play with their peers so no packed lunch is necessary.
Kit List
Please can children arrive in school wearing:
- Suitable clothing for outdoor fun! – long sleeved top, joggers. Please ensure children will be comfortable and free to get messy and muddy! On colder days lots of layers will help keep the children warm and happy 😊
- Gloves – regardless of the weather these are useful for gardening and woodwork activities.
- Hat if the weather is cooler.
- All in ones or waterproof jackets and trousers are welcome and a great outer layer for rainy days!
Head Teacher’s Award Lunch
When your child receives a Head Teacher’s Award they will be given an invite. This is for them to bring a packed lunch on a TUESDAY of the following week to eat at Beech’s Base. We will also toast marshmallows around the fire. Please could children return their invite and can use as a ‘Golden Ticket’ when they come along. Children can remain in school uniform for the whole day and will just need to bring suitable outer clothing such as a coat and possibly a hat if the weather is cold. In addition to this a change of shoes such as wellies or walking boots may be preferable to keep school shoes clean and dry!

Year 5 School Council
Your children have been asked to prepare a speech if they would like to be considered for school council. The position of school council will be for 2 children from each class, who will be voted in by their class mates. The class teachers will ensure the children are aware of democracy and this will meet one of the modern British values we work towards.
School council will meet with Mrs Pearson once a week to discuss issues and make plans for the school.
If your child would like to be considered then they will need to have their speeches ready for Friday morning.
The successful school council representatives will be presented in assembly on Friday afternoon.
Year 3 Parents
Year 3 parents dropping off and collecting through the Year 3 security gates, please be aware that it is preferred that you exit through the side gate, next to Mrs Pearson’s classroom, to help ease congestion.
Kindest regards
Mr M
