Amelia J enjoying the snow!

Amelia Jarrett In The SnowLovely to receive some pictures of children creating memories in the snow!

NJS is CLOSED on Tuesday 12th December

This afternoon we have received advice from Telford and Wrekin council following the forecast for this evening.

They are concerned about traffic on the roads at ‘rush hour’ and pathways at and around school due to the extremely cold temperatures.  The cold temperatures will mean gritting could remain ineffective for a time.

In consultation with other local Heads I have again had to make the difficult decision to close the school tomorrow.  It is not ideal but we again need to take the advice given and put safety first.

I’m going to learn from yesterday and not be ‘Little Miss Organised’!  I will be in touch with rearrangements once I know we can safely reopen.

I can’t apologise enough – my head knows safety first but my heart wants to do Christmas!

Take care

Mrs Moody

NJS UPDATE

I am writing following the news earlier that our school is unfortunately closed tomorrow.  I apologise again for the inconvenience and hope that many of you are able to use the day to create snow memories with your children (we’d love to see pictures if you want to email them in!)

The year 5 and 6 performance tomorrow evening is cancelled.

I might regret cancelling our Year 5 and 6 concert tomorrow night as, knowing our country, this time tomorrow we could be enjoying a heat wave!  I have however made the decision with the best interests of the safety of staff and children.  Staff at St Nicholas’ Church have been very supportive and we have been able to rearrange for 7pm on Wednesday evening, we hope that you are able to join us.  Please write a home link message to your class teacher on Tuesday if your child is unable to attend the performance on Wednesday evening.

The Church service on Wednesday morning is now the Year 5 and 6 rehearsal for their performance.  Years 3 and 4 should go straight to school on Wednesday morning.

The Year 3 party will now be on Thursday afternoon joint with Year 4.

I can’t apologise enough for the inconvenience; I fully appreciate it is a busy time of year.  I hope you understand I am doing my best to keep us safe but to still ensure the children get to enjoy Christmas festivities!

NJS is closed on Monday 11th December

I have taken the very difficult decision to close Newport CE Junior School tomorrow; Monday 11th December. It is not a decision I have made easily and realise it may cause inconvenience. I have made the decision now so that you can make alternative plans.

I have a duty of care to staff and children for safe travel to school and with current weather conditions and the overnight forecast travel in the morning is going to be very difficult.

I will be in touch as soon as possible with an alternative plan for the Year 5 and 6 performance that was due to take place tomorrow.

I apologise again for inconvenience but hope you understand.

Well done Harvey (Year 6)!

Well done to Harvey who has achieved his Grade 1 piano.  Congratulations from everyone at NJS.

Senior Citizens Tea Party

Please can we remind you that it is our Senior Citizens Christmas Tea Party tomorrow, in school, at 2pm.  Please remember to invite someone along to enjoy free entertainment, refreshments and a raffle!

Thank you to our PTA

Thank you to our fabulous PTA who raised £1374 at our Christmas Fair on Friday 🙂

Thank you to everyone who supported this fundraising event.

Parking

We have had concerns from a local resident about inappropriate parking outside school and on the new estate opposite school.  Please can we ask that you do not park in allocated parking spaces that belong to the new apartments and that you park appropriately to keep everyone safe.

We would, as ever, encourage you to use the car parks in town to reduce congestion around our school.
