All Things Bright and Beautiful 🐞 🐠 🦋

Whilst at Lichfield Cathedral, every child created a piece of artwork relating to the theme, ‘All things bright and beautiful’ which is inspired by beauty and spirituality.

They will form part of a display around the cathedral made by 1000 school pupils and will be on display over the summer.

If you get a chance then maybe you could visit over the summer holidays and try and spot your design!

5M – Tuesday 13th June

On Tuesday 5M will be starting to build their birds boxes – using saws, hammers and drills. To save the classroom from becoming over messy – Mrs Jones would like to complete these tasks in Beech’s Base, therefore children can come into school in their Beech’s Base clothing and footwear. They will still need their swimming kits.
Kindest regards
Mr M

Lichfield Reminders!

Good afternoon,

We are all looking forward to our trip to Lichfield tomorrow! Just a few reminders:

  1. Please arrive at school for 8:15am. We are hoping for an 8:30am departure.
  2. Packed lunches with plenty of drinks!
  3. With the weather being set to be very hot, ensure children are appropriately dressed in school uniform. This should also include a hat and sun cream!
  4. Any children who require medication for travel sickness, please pass this to your teacher in an envelope or box clearly labelled with your name and class. Your class teacher will pass it onto your group leader.
  5. We are leaving at approximately 2:30pm and will be due back at NJS for 3:30pm. Please keep an eye on the school Facebook in case we are stuck in traffic etc.

When we arrive back at school, we will quickly go back into the classroom and then head out onto the big yard for dismissal (just like a normal end of day).

Many thanks,

The Year 5 team!

Lego League!

Please can my Year 5 Lego League team come to my office at 11.30am, with their lunch, on Wednesday: we have a lot of exciting building to do so we are going to have a slightly longer session!  Not long until our conference on the 30th June: I will provide more details within the next couple of weeks.

5OP Writing!

For 7 weeks, year 5 have been looking at two genres within English. Both of these genres were based around ‘The Hound of the Baskerville’ a classic Sherlock Holmes story. The children have enjoyed reading some of the original text alongside a graphic novel version. The first genre, a cliff hanger narrative, produced the absolute best writing we have seen since the start of the year. Yesterday, the children were faced with a new genre – a formal event report. This is a tricky concept due to wanting to ‘tell the story’. It takes a different style of writing… all I can say is WOW! The children completed some in pairs, with really in depth discussions and they finished the piece independently. The reports I read were absolutely fantastic. I’ve attached some examples below…
