Creative Writing @ Adams Grammar School with a group of Yr5 children!

With a sense of excitement, the children of NJS arrived finally at the imposing gates of Adams Grammar School.

As they began to write, their faces were full of concentration. Pens moving at high speed as ink began to flow. An image of a bone chilling castle was there on display.

’Describe the setting using exciting adjectives,’ was the clear instruction.

Lets begin…

’The obsidian darkness, the sound of the owl’s hooting. Creating an unsettling feeling as moonlight shone, illuminating side of the huge grey castle wall’.

Composed by the Yr5 writers!

England Rocks – Results!

A huge well done and congratulations to all the children who took part in the England Rocks Competition on TTRS.

Special mentions to 1st place class: 5M, 2nd place class: 5J and 3rd place class: 6J 🙂

Some phenomenal individual results were recorded and children will receive certificates next week for their efforts.

Certificates to be given out are –

  • Top 3 classes in the school (based on average score).
  • Top 3 students in the school.
  • Top 3 students in each class.

We will publish the full results once the children have received their certificates 🙂

5M Reminders

This coming Friday, it is Mufti day in exchange for £1 for Children in Need. Mr Rotherham has done a letter on the website explaining a little more about a visitor we may have….

Next week is the start of Bikeability for some children. If this concerns your child, please return the permission slip for your child if you haven’t done so already.

Can children in 5M not doing Bikeability on Monday please bring an old shirt that can be ruined, we will be painting and using pastels Monday afternoon.

Swimming will continue as normal for the children not doing Bikeability on Tuesday.

Finally, speaking for 5M, your children are ploughing through an absolute avalanche of work currently and rising to the challenge well. They have coped with raised expectation of Y5 and I felt it was appropriate this was recognised.

England Rocks 🎸

Dear parent/carer,

As part of our commitment to make maths exciting and high profile in our school, we are taking part in a friendly competition involving schools in England. The competition runs from 07:30 Tuesday 14th November 2023 to 19:30 Thursday 16th November 2023. It’s all done online on TTRS.

Children can play in any gamemode with every correct answer to a multiplication or division question, earning themselves, their class and the school a point. The Times Tables Rock Stars platform will calculate the class average (the number of correct answers per pupil in the class who play during the competition hours, subject to a daily 60-minute limit (see below)). Winning classes in the school and in the competition as a whole will be the ones with the highest average.

To support player wellbeing, there is a daily time limit of 60-minutes per player. In other words, each player can earn competition points for up to 60-minutes between 07:30 Tuesday 14th November 2023 to 19:30 Thursday 16th November 2023. Once the player goes beyond 60-minutes of play on that day, they will still earn coins but will no longer earn points towards the competition.

In the spirit of the competition, please don’t play on their behalf but by all means encourage and support them to the extent that it doesn’t cause high stress levels or impact on family plans.
