I just wanted to thank everyone for their support and understanding around today’s closure. Please know it is never a decision we take lightly, we do not like closing, it is always a last resort.
Making a decision about the closure of a school in the event of adverse weather is very, very difficult. To remain open sets the expectation that 400 people, in the case of NJS, leave their homes to make a journey and when advice is to stay off the roads for safety that of course has to be taken into consideration as a priority.
In the event of bad weather and local collective challenges I liaise closely with our colleagues in the other Newport schools to try to review the local circumstances and to reduce disruption between siblings where we can.
Of course there are also occasions around closure where circumstances affect individual schools such as ours on the 20th January; I am incredibly grateful to yourselves and our Newport school colleagues for the overwhelming support we have received this week in preparation for that closure.
I hope the children and yourselves have been okay today. We are looking forward to seeing the children on Monday. Please do make contact with a member of the team if you need anything.
Thank you again.
Mrs M
