This has been anti bullying week and we have been thinking about what bullying is and learning about how we should deal with bullying.

I have asked the schools Guardians of Safety to help share the message with you.

“ Bullying is the repetitive, intentional hurting of one person or group by another person or group, where the relationship involves an imbalance of power. It can happen face to face or online“
It’s not the same as just falling out with someone.
It’s repetitive and it’s on purpose.

We say STOP
Bullying happens Several Times On Purpose
Bullying must stop.

Bullying can happen face to face or it can happen on line.
Bullying can be hitting, pushing, kicking.
It can be name calling or teasing.
It can be leaving someone out and making someone feel threatened.

Bullying is not acceptable ever.
At NJS
we say no to bullying. It is never ok.

We have child friendly guides to bullying in each classroom with advice and help.

At NJS we share Kindness! That was the message in our anti-bullying assemblies and we have certainly shown it in our support for Children in Need today.

A huge thank you to Annabelle and Abbie in 5H who organised a cake sale today to raise money for Children in Need.

They sold off their cakes to Year 5 at break time and raised £48.26.

Such a fantastic community spirit earns them the Community Badge. We are very proud of you girls!

Please find attached our latest Reading Newsletter for you to share together at home.

We love reading at Newport Junior School and want the children to develop a real reading for pleasure attitude.

Part of this comes from talking about books and sharing books.

Newsletter 12

Teachers will have been busy making sure all children have a matched reading book appropriate to their age. Hopefully children will have shared these books with you and shared their Reading Record book with you too.

We ask that children read at least 3 times a week at home.

Please record what they have read by writing it in their Reading Record Book.

Staff in school will check these books regularly to monitor reading at home and check how children are getting on with the books they have chosen.

Please see this attached leaflet with further information about how we organise reading at NJS and with suggestions for comments in the Reading Record Book. (The books are sometimes referred to as a Reading Diary- they are the same thing!)
