6B Poetry
As today is National Poetry Day, class 6B were inspired by the ‘Refuge’ poem and tried to write our own. We are reading the text ‘Letters From The Lighthouse’, and this looks at WW2 refugees. We talked about how similar refugees and evacuees are and felt inspired to write our own poetry. All of the poems were amazing and some people even managed to write them making sense backwards! Take a look at some examples.

Military Kids Club
Good Afternoon,
Military Kids Club will be taking place in 4N (in the Victorian Block) from 3:15pm tomorrow (6th October). It is open to all children whose parents/carers are currently serving in the Armed Forces or who are Service Veterans.
The aim of the club is to provide wellbeing support and nurture, along with completing fun activities as a group of children who have something in common. Some of the activities we have done previously include, learning the phonetic alphabet, visiting Beech’s Base, Remembrance Day/Armed Forces Day activities and playing games!
I hope to see you tomorrow 🙂

Celebrating World Mental Health Day – 10.10.23
Good afternoon everyone,
I am writing a message to let you know that we will be taking part in #HelloYellow on Tuesday 10th October 2023! This is all in support of World Mental Health Day!
We can all struggle with how we’re feeling, but sometimes things get tough and it can be difficult to cope. For so many young people, when this happens, they don’t get the help they need, when they need it. By taking part in #HelloYellow we are supporting mental health and showing young people that we are with them! We want the children to know that our physical health matters but so does our mental health.
Many other schools will be joining in with the #HellowYellow campaign! We are asking the children to wear one yellow item of clothing on TUESDAY 10TH OCTOBER! We will be wearing yellow to raise awareness for mental health and to show children that they matter. Just to clarify, children can swap one item of school uniform for one item of yellow clothing.
The children will be completing a range of activities during the school week within class. We look forward to sharing some of the things we get up to on the school website.
Take care,
Mrs Ollerenshaw
6J Tag Rugby Lesson
6J completed their first taste of Tag Rugby in PE last week. We began the unit by looking at some of the key skills: agility, passing, catching and moving into space. There is a Yr 5/6 Tag Rugby tournament coming up so it was great to see lots of children giving the sport a go!
Yr 6 Wrekin College Maths Challenge
A huge congratulations to our Yr 6 mathematicians who represented NJS at the Wrekin College Maths Challenge on Friday. An incredible 55 teams entered and we are delighted that NJS finished in 6th place, and as the 4th highest school overall. A remarkable achievement by these children who should feel very proud of their efforts.
6B Beech’s Base
Dear parents,
Class 6B are invited to spend the afternoon at Beech’s Base on Wednesday 4th October. Please could all children come to school wearing their forest school clothes, with some spare clothes and shoes in their bags.
Many thanks,
