This week, children are learning about the importance of movement for our mental health.
We will be marking Mental Health Awareness Week at NJS. Children will be taking part in a live BBC lesson on Monday, coming together for an assembly and taking part in a “move-nic” on Friday afternoon.
NJS Move-nic! At the start of the week, children will have the opportunity to choose a movement activity from a selection. On Friday afternoon, they will go to their activity of choice and spend some time moving to look after their mental health.
With SATs beginning on Monday, we wanted to give Yr 6 some ideas as to how they can relax and enjoy this weekend! There will obviously be no homework this week, but here is a Pre SATs Bingo that you may want to try and complete to prepare yourselves for the week ahead! We are looking forward to welcoming you all to breakfast club on Monday morning.

Whatever you do Year 6 have a relaxing weekend.
Not long now until our fabulous Year 6 cohort move onto Secondary School, we will miss them and want to ensure they have fabulous memories to mark the end of their time at NJS.
You will be aware of all of the below, it’s just a reminder!
*Leavers Hoodies! Our hardworking PTA have raised enough to cover the cost of a leavers hoody for all Year 6 children. Huge thanks to them. These will be with your children after their SATS.
*Wednesday 22nd May: Alton Towers! Reminder this is a full day: 8.30am to be in school and returning to school around 6.30pm. Please ensure you check the newsletter for further updates on the arrangements!
*12th-14th June: London Residential! All children who have signed up to this should have received information from Mr Rotherham: again please do check the newsletters for any updated information. Those children who are not attending the residential we do expect you in school.
*Thursday 20th June: Year 6 Sports Day! Parents, family and friends welcome!
*Early July: induction days at Secondary Schools: these do vary by school so please ensure you have checked correspondence from your child’s next school.
*10th July 3.30-6pm: Open Night for any families who wish to come into school to look at children’s work and speak to any of the staff: all will be available.
*Thursday 18th July: Leavers Day!
9am: Leavers Service at St Nicholas’ Church: Year 6 parents are welcomed to attend.
Leavers Lunch: Year 6 will choose the menu for the school on this date!
Shirt signing! Children are welcomed to bring a shirt they would like signed by friends and school staff as a momento of their time at NJS.
3.15-5.30pm Leavers Party! Year 6 children and staff (no parents) invited to an end of Year 6 party. Children will be in groups and will move around a range of ‘sporting’ and ‘party’ activities ending with chip shop chips for tea! Children can bring a change of clothes for the leavers party but they should be practical.
*Friday 19th July: Last day at NJS.
YEAR 6 SATS: NEXT WEEK!
Your children have been working incredibly hard over the last few weeks (and in fact 4 years!) to prepare for their End of Key Stage 2 SATS. We are really proud of them all: for their hard work, resilience and motivation.
I just wanted to offer a few reminders ahead of next week and clarify a few things we have been asked:
ARRANGEMENTS FOR SAT WEEK
*The SAT workshop was held in February and I have attached the slides below as a reminder of what we covered so you have this information to hand should it be needed. I have also attached a letter for your attention.
In Summary:
* The timetable for next week:
MONDAY: Spelling, punctuation and grammar
TUESDAY: Reading
WEDNESDAY: Arithmetic and Maths Reasoning
THURSDAY: Maths Reasoning
*ALL children are expected in school ALL week. If any emergency circumstances arise that may impact on your child’s attendance please email nicola.moody@taw.org.uk and max.jones9@taw.org.uk as soon as you are able. If circumstances arise during the school day please telephone 01952 386600 and ask for Mrs Moody or Mr Jones. (You can of course use these email addresses and those of Mrs Bold and Mrs Kerr if you have any queries at all.)
*Breakfast Club (a definite highlight of SAT week!) will take place Monday-Thursday next week. Breakfast is served from 8am so we encourage children to arrive at this time. If you do need to drop your child earlier school will be open from 7.30am. The children should enter through the usual Year 6 gates and come straight into the hall with their bags.
*ALL equipment (stationery) is provided for the SATS so the children just need to bring their usual things for later in the day.
*Please send the children with a filled water bottle and an extra snack especially on Wednesday where lunch will be slightly later due to the DFE timetable asking the children to sit two papers on this date.
*Please ensure children have PE kits in school all week: no revision in the afternoons, as much PE and ‘downtime’ as we can!
Mrs M
Please see the poster attached regarding an upcoming mufti-day! Friday 24th May – £1
Maths sessions which have been held by Mr Jones & Miss Bold on a Thursday morning have now finished.
We are very grateful for the hard work and effort shown by the children in the last few months and we are sure this will benefit them in the future.
Maths sessions which take place on a Tuesday morning will continue for 1 more week and these children will have their final session on Tuesday 7th May.
We are pleased that we will once again be offering all Yr 6 children the chance to take part in the Deer Park Photography Competition taking place on Friday 24th May.
We will be taking the children to Chetwynd Deer Park where they will spend either the morning or afternoon working with a professional photographer, who will teach the children how to take the best possible photos; children will then be given time to capture as many images as they can. They will then be able to enter their best photo to be put forward to the Newport Show judges; prizes are usually awarded for the top 3 entries.
All the information should be contained within the attached letter. As ever, if you have any questions, please speak to your child’s class teacher.
Homework due by Wednesday 1st May
If you have any problems with the homework, please email or speak to your child’s class teacher who will be happy to help.
