Yr 6 Photogrpahy Workshop

On Wednesday 24th May, Yr 6 will be visiting Chetwynd Deer Park to participate in a photography workshop.

We will be walking from school to the deer park and must arrive before 09:30am so we ask that children are in school promptly that morning for a 9am departure.

We will be arriving back at school just after 12pm so will eat lunch back at school.  Children can be hot dinners or packed lunch as normal.

The children will be working with a photographer who will show them photography techniques before they have the freedom to explore the deep park and capture images.

Each child will then select their favourite image to submit for the Newport Show competition, with prizes on offer for the winners.

We ask that children bring their own camera for this visit. In the event that a child does not have access to a camera, we have a limited supply in school that we can lend for the day.

Strictly no mobile phones to be used for the visit.

Please speak to your class teacher if you have any questions about this visit.

Yr 4 Parents – Important MTC Info

2023_Information_for_parents_Multiplication_tables_check_Nov_22_PDFA

Every year, children in Yr 4 across the nation will complete an official Multiplication Tables Check – MTC. This check is designed to assess whether children can fluently recall their times tables up to 12 x 12, which is essential for success in mathematics.

Children in Yr 4 have been learning their tables regularly, as part of the national curriculum and lots of hard work has been going into making sure they are ready to complete the MTC. Yr 4 staff have been setting challenges, making use of TTRS, singing songs, playing games and much more to ensure that children are as well prepared as they can be for the MTC.

The testing window will take place from Monday 5th June until Friday 16th June. Children will be completing the test in small groups using school iPads. Children have had opportunities to practise completing the MTC several times prior to the official check taking place so should feel comfortable with the set up.

If you would like to help support your child with this at home, please encourage the use of TTRS – this will have been set by the class teacher to target specific questions which the children can improve their recall on.

Help with tables at home – NJS You can also make use of some resources from this booklet which includes lots of tips to help your child with their fluent recall of all times tables.

We are very proud of our Yr 4 children and we know that they will all take this as an opportunity to shine in their maths, as they have been all year.

Please see the PDF Document attached which is put out by the Department for Education to inform parents about the MTC.  If you have any questions regarding the MTC Framework then please speak to a member of the Yr 4 teaching team, or to Mr Jones (Maths Lead)

Toilet Twinning Final Total – Amazing!

We are delighted to announce that our effort with Toilet Twinning on Friday raised an amazing £335; surpassing our initial aim of £300.

This means that we can twin 5 toilets, including fresh water handwashing facilities, for some of the poorest communities in the world.

A massive thank you to our Global Avengers for the hard work, dedication and passion you have shown over the last few months!

Everyone in the school should feel proud of their part in making this success a possibility. We will update you when we have official confirmation from the Toilet Twinning organisation.

Yr 6 Shrewsbury Visit TOMORROW

Just a reminder that Yr 6 will be on their visit to Shrewsbury tomorrow. This is part of our History work on The Tudor Dynasty; Mr Rotherham will be leading a guided tour looking at Tudor architecture, trade in the Tudor times and sites of relevance during the Tudor period such as Shrewsbury Abbey.

Can we remind children that it is school uniform however we do recommend wearing comfortable footwear as we will be doing a lot of walking. This could be walking boots or trainers.

We also recommend brining a disposable packed lunch that can be thrown away during the day. If your child is having a school lunch, this will be in a paper bag which can be discarded once eaten.

Toilet Twinning at NJS

Wow! What a day!

A huge thank you to each & every child who came to school dressed in BLUE 4 A LOO! You have helped to raise awareness, and money, for people living in global poverty.

The official amount will be added up on Monday, but we have managed to surpass our target and raise OVER £300 for Toilet Twinning – this means we can twin 5 toilets for communities in the poorest areas of the world!

A HUGE thank you to the Global Avengers for their hard work & effort in organising today’s events.

Pictures and more information to follow next week, but a massive thank you for helping our children to become global citizens!

Cake Sale at home time! Friday 24th March

To help with our efforts with Toilet Twinning, some member of Global Avengers will be holding a cake sale at the end of the day (Friday 24th March)

All cakes will be on sale for a voluntary donation. Any money raised will go towards our Toilet Twinning contribution.

This action is something that Global Avengers have decided upon themselves, and demonstrates their desire to help others in need. We are very proud of the courageous advocacy being shown by this group of Yr 5/6 children.

Their will be a cake sale on the Yr 6 gate and one on the main playground gates.

Friday 24th – Wear Blue 4 a Loo

A reminder that all children are invited to wear BLUE clothing for a £1 donation tomorrow.

This is to support our efforts in raising money for Toilet Twinning – an official campaign to hep twin our NJS toilets with countries without access to toilet blocks or clean water.

Children are welcome to wear as much or as little blue as they like, and can bring blue wigs etc should they have them available.

Thank you for your support.

Global Avengers.

Yr 6 – Break Time Snack Reminder

Can we please remind parents that break time snacks are not to be placed in lunchboxes. We currently have children accessing lunchboxes every break time to get their snack; these should be in bags or on the desk where they can be accessed easily.

We have recently had food go missing from lunchboxes and as a result will be storing the lunch box trolley out of bounds for the children until lunchtime. This measure is to ensure that children are not accessing food from a lunch box which does not belong to them.

Break time snacks should be a healthy option as outlined in our Healthy Eating Policy.

Many thanks.
