Year 3 Chetwynd Deer Park Visits tomorrow and Wednesday.

Dear Parents and Carers,

As a final reminder about tomorrow, here is the information that was posted in September, about the Deer Park visits for Year 3 children, with a few additions. Each class will spend half a day at the deer park;

IMPORTANT – PARENTAL CONSENT is required for all pupils to attend and this is done through the ParentPay application. If you have not clicked that you consent to your child joining this trip, they will remain in school with another class. Please contact the School Office in the morning if you have not done this or are experiencing problems.

3B – Wednesday 4th morning – 9am- 12pm – Come to school dressed in own clothes (possibly will get muddy) and either old trainers / walking boots. Please bring a Raincoat, a breaktime snack and spare footwear for the afternoon. If you bring a water bottle your child must be responsible for it throughout the trip.

3L – Wednesday 4th afternoon – 12:30pm – 3pm. Come to school dressed in own clothes (possibly will get muddy) and bring either old trainers / walking boots to change into for the trip. Please bring a Raincoat. If you bring a water bottle your child must be responsible for it throughout the trip.

3T Thursday 5th morning – 9am- 12pm – Come to school dressed in own clothes (possibly will get muddy) and either old trainers / walking boots. Please bring a Raincoat, a breaktime snack and spare footwear for the afternoon. If you bring a water bottle your child must be responsible for it throughout the trip.

Here are some important details regarding the trip; please ask your child’s class teacher if you have further questions.

Clothing– Children will be able to come dressed appropriately for the outdoors on the day of their trip; we recommend long trousers and multiple layers due to the time of year. Raincoats are essential. We advise children wear old or ‘muddy’ trainers. Wellington boots are not recommended as we will be walking to the deer park from school. 3B and 3T may wish to bring a change of clothes for the afternoon, but this is at your discretion.

Transport – We will be walking from school to the Deer Park, this is about 30 minutes. We will depart and arrive during school time. Please be patient with 3L, in case we encounter delays due to traffic conditions related to time of return.

Lunch – We will be having lunch at school at the normal time and there will be no change to hot dinners or packed lunch arrangements.

We have enjoyed this trip for many years; it is a great opportunity and we know our Year 3 children will have a great time.

3T Beech’s Base (3rd October)

Dear parents/carers of 3T,

On Tuesday afternoon 3T have the opportunity to visit Beech’s Base, our school forest school area. The children will have access to lots of different learning opportunties and have fun exploring our outdoor space.

Children are welcome to come to school in appropriate clothes for the entire day, but I would advise you to check weather conditions in the morning too. I would always suggest children bring a rain coat. Everyone needs to bring a spare change of shoes, either muddy trainers or wellies for their time down the in Beech’s Base.

3L Beeches base *EDIT*

Last week I released advise for our visit to Beech’s Base. In there I recommended coming to school in appropriate clothing.

Due to Wednesday being school photo day I will ask all children to arrive in school uniform with messy clothes in a separate bag.

Beeches Base 3L Wednesday 27th

3L have the opportunity to visit Beech’s Base on Wednesday (27th)  afternoon. This is our in house Forrest fun/learning provision.

3L will visit the Beech’s base in the afternoon where they will explore our provision and access learning opportunities linking to our curriculum.

Year 3 Homework / Reading / Spellings / general advice

Dear Parents and Carers,

Following the start of term, we have had several requests for more information about Homework, Reading and Spellings. Our approach is definitely more ‘carrot’ than ‘stick’, and children are positively rewarded for the efforts they put into any work handed in.

Homework and Spellings:

Each half term (usually about 6 weeks long), children should bring home their homework books along with a homework sheet, detailing what they are expected to do. This is also posted on the school website in the ‘Classes – Year 3’ section.

We also set a half termly Maths /English (or both!) task, a weekly set of spelling words(posted on the website in the ‘Classes’ –  Year 3 Spellings and homework section of the website, and a half-termly Foundation subject task (could be Art / History / Geography / topical task).

The Maths and Spellings can be done in the homework book, evidence of which will be rewarded with house points at the end of each half term. Please ensure your child gives their book in on, or around the due date mentioned on the Homework task sheet.

The foundation task is usually a little more involved and may include producing a piece of art work, or making a model, writing a poster or creating a game – often something more practical / knowledge-based.

Spellings are reviewed in classwork and in English lessons, or during handwriting, and are not formally tested this year on a regular basis, but we aim to ensure children learn spelling rules, or words containing specific spelling patterns through literacy lessons and occasional spot tests of spelling pattern words and certain problematic spellings that are consistently spelt incorrectly.

Reading:

We expect children to read at least 3x per week with an adult (ideally every day at this age) outside school hours, and for that adult to record evidence of this in their child’s Reading Diary (Yellow / gold colour). At school, every child is listened to by an adult, reading aloud, at least once every week, usually more. Children have the following books to read: One levelled book, the level of which is chosen by their teacher, one free choice book (often from home but can be a school stock book), one school library book.

Children are responsible for changing their own books, which are then checked by their class teacher / TA, when they are listened to reading. If you feel your child’s levelled book is not the right level for them, please speak with us about this, either in person or via the Homelink Book.

Library

Children in Year 3 go to change their library book on a Tuesday. Please ensure their have their library books with them on this day.

Homelink Books

These books are for children to record what is happening in their class each week ahead (kind of a diary) and also for us and you to send messages to each other from time to time, especially if email / this website is not convenient / appropriate. In some classes, children also tally their house points in these books on each relevant day.

Headteacher’s Award / Beech’s Base

If children are lucky enough to win their class’s weekly Headteacher’s award, they are invited to attend a lunchtime Beech’s Base get-together, with other winners from across the school, on the following Tuesday lunchtime. They need to bring a pair of boots / wellies and a waterproof  / raincoat for the lunchtime, where they may sit round the campfire, possibly to have a treat with their dinner (weather dependent). This is weather / staffing dependent, and is not obligatory. Cancelled sessions are usually rearranged for another day.

Name Labels

As you will understand, the amount of time we spend re-uniting your children with their clothing / belongings when they become separated is much smaller when things are labelled with a name and class. Therefore, please ensure ALL your child’s belongings are named. Thank you.

Year 3 Homework

Dear parents/carer of Year 3

By the end of this week, all Year 3 children will have been given the homework for this half term. There is a Maths, Reading, Spelling and a foundation subject task for your child to attempt. The due date is Thursday 19th October, but if completed can be brought back sooner. Whilst it is not compulsory, children are rewarded handsomely with house points upon completion.
