Good morning everyone,
I hope that you have found the resources shared this week helpful. Tomorrow, the children will all be completing some tasks within the classroom. Look out for any posts about this from the teachers!
I am going to leave this final resource in the hope that it helps! Positive affirmations are a fantastic tool to support children with a variety of emotions. They help children think positively which can support a change in mindset.
Take care,
Mrs Ollerenshaw
Good morning everyone,
Today, I am going to share some fantastic techniques to support children when needed. The first is a breathing technique and helps children focus to support feeling calm.
Another technique I would suggest is the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 grounding method. This is great for helping children stop and focus on what is around them. This is really useful if children feel overwhelmed and can support helping them to stay calm.
5 4 3 2 1 – Grounding Mindfulness technique
I hope that you find these useful!

Good morning everyone,
Following on from my post yesterday, I thought I would share a fantastic resource produced by Place2be. This year is the 10th year of Children’s mental health week by Place2be. Below you will find some top tips for families as well as some great conversation starters.
Take care,
Mrs Ollerenshaw
As always we continue to encourage as many children as possible to walk, scoot or cycle to school. It’s the healthy option and of course better for the environment and congestion.
Please can we remind you that bikes and scooters left at school in our shelters are left at your own risk. We will do our best to ensure they are safe but we are sure you appreciate we cannot guarantee this.
Thank you for your support.
Staff from Newport Girls’ High School are delivering a short presentation on Thursday 29th February at 3.30pm in our school hall. This is an opportunity for parents/carers to learn more about the school and the application process.
All Year 4 and 5 parents are welcome to attend.
Year 6 Parents and Carers…
We would like to invite you to attend a workshop with us at NJS which will help you to understand a little more about the forthcoming SAT assessments that are statutary for Year 6 children.
We will share information with you about the structure of the assessments as well as how we will support your children.
This workshop will take place on Monday 26th February at 5pm in the school hall and will last around 45 minutes. Children can attend with you if you wish.
Thank you for your support.

Thursday 8th February: Wax Work Museum Day!
AIMS:
*To enable children to learn about an inspirational personality, challenges they have overcome and an understanding of what they have achieved.
*To produce a quality piece of writing for an audience.
REMINDERS:
-Children can attend school on Thursday dressed as their chosen personality.
-Parents/carers are invited to view the Wax Work Museum in two slots:
Years 3 and 4: 2-2.20pm
Years 5 and 6: 2.40-3pm.
If you have children in both upper and lower school you can choose a slot to attend as all children will partake in both museums! We will ask that parents/carers wait at their usual gates at 3pm so we can pack the children up and dismiss them.
-At 2pm and 2.40pm parents/carers need to wait at the security gate, a member of staff will collect the queue which will ‘snake around’ our wax work museum.
We are looking forward to it!
Mrs M
