6J Learning to Dance

As part of P.E this week 6J learned a selection of routines which will be performed at the Young Vocies choir concert this week!

6J Using Drama to Perform Dialogue

Today 6J made use of drama as a way of performing dialogue. The children spent some time making improvements to the text before performing to each other. Some wonderful pieces of drama – well done 6J!

Working with your study buddy!

6J have been making use of the study buddy system to develop their understanding of decimals. This system works by allowing children who aren’t too confident in maths to work with someone who is more confident and therefore able to provide some peer help to them. The system worked well today and and the children were all able to solve the problems presented to them.

Narrative writing: Matching characteristics.

6J have carried on their literacy focus of narrative writing by matching the specific characteristics to the correct genre. In perticular we looked at science fiction, horror, mystery, fantasy, adventure and myths. The children were given strips of information and were tasked to identify the genre they were from.

Year 6 triangle challenge.

To end our maths lesson 6J had a go at solving this puzzle. How many triangles can you see?

Year 6: Elgin Marbles

This week in year 6 our literacy focus will be on the Elgin marbles debate between the U.K and Greek government. Both year 6 classes rotated around a selection of research stations including non fiction books, laptops, radio podcasts and web links. The children were encouraged to make detailed notes which they will then use to produce a balanced argument and a structured classroom debate.

There’s a boy in the girls’ bathroom

6J have almost finished their class story of There’s a boy in the girls’ bathroom; the boom we have used for the last 3 weeks in our Literacy lessons. Today we worked on understanding how the main character (Bradley Chalkers) changes throughout the story.

6J Dancing

Our P.E topic this term is dance; to familiarise the children with dance we had a go at performing the YMCA. After this the children were tasked with creating a dance routine which displayed each other letters of their names. There were some wonderful performances, well done 6J!

Year 6 STAR.

Year 6 are partaking in a STAR (stop, think, act, reflect) scheme run by West Mercia Polic Force. P.C Ridgewell came into 6J and discussed topics such as drugs, alcohol and arrests. The children all found the programme enjoyable and informative. These sessions will be running each Tuesday afternoon for 6 weeks.

6J Brain Gym

After a full afternoon of writing 6J took part in some brain gym activities within class.
