Year 5 Bulletin
National Space Centre Visit
Year 5 are learning about Space in Science this term and their learning has been enriched with a visit to the National Space Centre! What a great experience!
Thank you to the Year 5 team for organising the visit and to parents and carers for their support.
Children’s Mental Health Week
This week is Children’s Mental Health Week. The wellbeing of all members of our NJS family is at the heart of our school. Understanding ‘what is my mental health?‘ is vital for looking after our wellbeing. This week, these slides will be shared with children. They will be having discussions with staff and completing a piece of work following this.
Why not use this to open up a conversation at home this week about wellbeing with your children?
Have a great week everyone! Mrs Wheat x
Yr 5 National Space Centre Visit
A reminder for the parents and children in Year 5 who are going to the National Space Centre on Tuesday 8th February.
Children need to come into their classroom for registration at 8.20am, lining up in the usual place – the coach will be leaving at 8.30am. This will give the children and staff chance to check packed lunches and toilet before we leave.
The children are required to be wearing school uniform and have a coat with them. They will not need anything else with them. They will have activities to complete whilst at the centre, however school will provided the equipment necessary.
It is a long day – therefore your child may need extra drinks, snacks etc in their packed lunch. If your child is in receipt of FSM then they have ordered a meal from the school kitchen (some chose not to – please speak with your child to confirm!)
We aim to be back at school for 5.30/45pm, but please bear with us – this will be traffic dependant.
We are all looking forward to a super day and we hope the children are too.
Regards
Team Year 5 x
Yr 5 English – Writing
This week we are looking at Biographies with the children. At the end of this block of work the children have to write a biography for someone they think is inspirational to them. The children will be completing some research about this inspirational person.
We ask that you support your child over the next 24hours to think of and discuss, who is inspirational to them. This will enable the children to go straight onto their research task.
5M will need their inspirational person by Tuesday.
Many thanks

COVID UPDATE FOR 5M: IMPORTANT
Parents and Carers
We are following advice from the Health Protection Hub:
Unfortunately we now have around 30% of your child’s class having tested positive for COVID-19 over the last 10 days.
We are doing what we can to reduce transmission within the class and more widely across the school, but on the advice of the Health Protection Hub we will require sight of negative LFD test results before the children can come into school each day. Please email your result to lynne.stanley@taw.org.uk before your child arrives for school: we will accept your forwarding your NHS confirmation of negative lateral flow or a photograph of the test kit with result.
This will extend up to and including Friday 21st January.
The efforts that have been made by parents/carers in terms of being vigilant for symptoms and testing the children are greatly appreciated. This next step is an attempt to identify any asymptomatic children that may be coming into school and who haven’t already been identified through testing.
Advice on obtaining test kits is available by following these links:
https://maps.test-and-trace.nhs.uk/
https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests
As always, please ensure you are vigilant for symptoms and if your child does display symptoms, please keep them off school and book them a COVID test using this link:
https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test
As general advice, if your child is a household contact of a positive case we would also ask that they take daily LFD tests for a period of 7 days from the date of exposure to the positive case.
We thank you all for your support and send our best wishes to all of those affected.

Year 5 homework for this term
Please find attached the year 5 homework for this half term. Children have stuck this in their homework books today to bring home. If their homework book was not in school then they have brought home loose sheets to stick in!
Many thanks, the Y5 team.
