NJS Through the Keyhole Round 1 Answers!

The answers you have been waiting for….

NUMBER 1: Mrs Wood

Mrs Wood lives with her husband, her two children and four guinea pigs. She loves being outdoors, walking, cycling and spending time in her caravan. Mrs Wood likes to cook and is always looking for new ideas for tea. She supports Everton especially the ladies team and coaches football at school through Newport Girls Football Club. Mrs Wood also cares for the environment and encourages reduce, reuse, recycle through our school eco club.

Mrs Wood has worked as a TA at NJS for almost 5 years and enjoys being a part of the NJS family.

NUMBER 2: Mr Rotherham

A map of Shrewsbury, where Mr R lives. Mr R loves his garden and he loves his music, hence the CD collection. He loves to travel, or at least he used to! He has a collection of books for the places in the world he has visited. Mr R loves a cuppa, especially a cup of Yorkshire tea. The mug with an A for Andrew might have been an extra clue. There are two clues from when he was younger, one is a Dalek. He was a huge Dr Who fan as a child and so his sister bought him the Dalek as a gift. Finally, the connection to Hawkstone Park… where he grew up, where his father worked as a greenkeeper and he spent may happy hours playing on the Hawkstone Hills as a child.

Mr Rotherham has worked at NJS for over 25 years and is Deputy Head and 0.2 Head!

NUMBER 3: Mrs Breen

Mrs Breen lives in Bratton, Telford with her husband and textile mad daughter! She also has two sons but one no longer lives at home and the other is away at university. Her daughter never tidies up her craft work and she has a dog who always tries to steal chocolate!

She has been a teaching assistant for many years, loves her job and especially loves working at NJS, it’s her favourite school!

NUMBER 4: Mrs Jukes

She has lots of pottery in her house from Stoke on Trent as she is from Staffordshire. Mrs Jukes has a black and white cat called Jessie. Her lounge is full of teddies & toys which belong to her little girl. She loves different kinds of art. Mrs Jukes’ husband keeps 52 tennis rackets in their home!

Mrs Jukes has worked at NJS for a number of years in her role as a teacher.

Year 5 Home Learning Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th May – Day 20 & 21

Dear Parents and Year 5s,

Please find attached the year 5 home learning activities for this week. If you split your day and have more of a structured timetable then this may help you to become focussed. Add into your timetable when you are playing in the garden, going for a bike ride/walk, helping with the cooking/cleaning etc – remember all these skills are still learning!!

Please bear in mind the following:

  • These activities are a guide for what you might work through with as a year 5 child.
  • You may wish to complete additional work using the links provided on the school website or suggestions on the NJS Home Learning information page in the Home Learning books.
  • If the activities provided are too challenging or too much for your child, please adapt the work or amount that you do. There is no obligation to complete every activity set each day. Sometimes the tasks may take too long – don’t feel as though you have to complete them all that day, you can always catch up tomorrow! Likewise some of the tasks set are designed to be completed across the week – we have tried our best to emphasise this on the slides!
  • TTRS and learning off by heart times-tables, general reading, spelling patterns previously sent home are all also very important – these can be completed across the week to suit.

All three teachers are looking forward to seeing your work – please feel free to email any work you have completed to us so we can look at it. Also let us know if you would like any work sharing as we can publish it on our school website (the year 5 page) so other children in the year group can see what you have completed. (megan.hardy@taw.org.uk, ben.moody@taw.org.uk, elliot.lawson@taw.org.uk)

Make the most of this extra time at home to enjoy and learn things you wouldn’t normally have time for.

Stay safe and keep smiling!

Love Miss H, Mr M and Mr L x

NJS to mark VE Day

When we planned our 2019/2020 curriculum 12 months ago this next week was a significant feature with plans to mark VE day on Friday.

We can’t celebrate using our original plans but want to ensure our school family mark this occasion.

Mrs Kerr has sent out some activities which are available to use as part of Home Learning.

Also… we want to bring our school family together for a commemorative VE day video!  We have done staff videos and children your videos will follow tomorrow… our VE day video will bring staff, children and families together in a way we can’t do in person.

So.… we would like you to send either a video (no longer than 5-10 seconds) or photograph to ben.moody@taw.org.uk before 6pm on Wednesday of you marking VE day.  You (and your family if they wish to be involved!) could be holding/waving a flag, hanging bunting, baking a celebratory cake, wearing red, white and blue… be creative, we can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Sending your photo or video into Mr Moody confirms your consent for this to be used online.

We hope this video will bring our school family together to celebrate VE day.

Thank you for your support.

NJS Through the Keyhole: Round 1, answers released tomorrow!

We have been working hard to keep in touch with you all!  I am going to give my social media ‘actors’ a few days off and instead offer you…. NJS Through the Keyhole!

Below are clues to 4 members of NJS staff.  You need to see if you can use the clues to guess… ‘who lives in a house like this?!’.  You may want to remind yourself of all the staff on our staff page: https://newportjuniorschool.org.uk/home/about/our-team/staff/

On Monday I will give you the answers and the next 4 clues!

Good luck everyone!

#Be kind… to NJS staff

Please can I ask all of our wonderful families to be mindful of NJS staff at this time.  I am aware of a couple of comments on social media that could affect the morale of my team.

TeamNJS are doing all they can to support you all at this time.  Some staff are unwell, off sick and juggling life with children like many of yourselves will be.  Staff are working extremely hard behind the scenes and in ‘public’.  Please comment kindly or alternatively directly to myself.

I am incredibly grateful to the vast majority of parents who are currently being amazingly supportive to NJS: this makes a massive difference to us, thank you x
