Year 3 have thoroughly enjoyed a visit to the Gurdwara today. We learnt more about the history of Sikhism and its links to Christianity. This included handling the 5K’s; something we have been learning about in class.
The children were made exceptionally welcome when they were offered food: the Langar. The children enjoyed a wide variety of foods including ice cream which of course was a highlight!
Sam said ‘I really liked seeing the real 5K’s as it helped me to understand what we have been learning’. Sophie said ‘I REALLY enjoyed the ice cream, everyone at the Gurdwara was so kind to us.’
This visit enriched subject knowledge for our RE curriculum and our wider learning about the British Values of Tolerance and Respect which of course are part of the National Curriculum and OFSTED expectations for schools.
Huge thanks to everyone at the Gurdwara who made NJS so very welcome and to the team at school who made this visit possible.
