Year 5 Faith day

On Thursday the school enjoyed activities based on different faiths from around the world. 5K along with children from 5P worked together on developing their understanding of how all these faiths make up our community.

Music fun in 5OP!

We have been really enjoying our music lessons so far! Out topic is ‘Africa’ and so far we’ve been learning a song called ‘Shosholoza’. It includes call and response and is the second national anthem of South Africa. The children have been fantastic with recalling information about the song – who sung it? Why did they create it? What does it mean?
Yesterday, we looked at three new terms: ostinato, mnemonics and polyrhythms. We had a go at playing our own polyrhythms using different instruments!

Well done 5OP!

Forest fun in 5OP!

Last week the children in 5OP had a brilliant time in Beech’s Base with Miss Lockwood and Miss Smith!
Here are some photos of what they got up to in the afternoon.

Calling New Global Avengers

Mr Jones is on the hunt for his new team of Global Avengers!

This is a club set up for children who want to make a difference to the world around them; be the voice for those who can’t speak for themselves.

In recent years, Global Avengers spearheaded a campaign for Toilet Twinning, where we managed to put toilets in 5 of the poorest parts of the world: Shropshire Star Link.

This year, we are hoping to embark on a new global project, where the children will lead the way in being advocates of change and making a difference to those most in need.

This club meet every Thursday lunch time in 6J. If you think it is something you would be interested in, please sign up on Parent Pay or speak to Mr Jones for more information!

Beech’s Base REMINDER!

5OP – Wednesday 11th September

5K – Friday 13th September

5P – Wednesday 18th September (Next week).

Reminders for B.base:

  • Wear the appropriate clothing – please check the weather forecast.
  • Bring a change of shoes/clothes.
  • Waterproof coat

Children can come into school in their clothing however, we would suggest bringing some spare clothes in case of heavy rainfall. We would also ask the children to come into school in clean shoes/trainers and they can change into old shoes/wellies before the session in the afternoon.

Many thanks,

Year 5

5P Class Book

Parents- as part of 5P’s class book ‘I am Rebel’ please keep an eye out for “The Red’s Scarf” which your child may be bringing home to share with you and your 4 legged friend! If you could kindly take a photo of your dog wearing it and email it to me at nicholas.parker4@taw.org.uk I will then use it to update our class Reading Area Display as seen with the pictures and models so far.

Best wishes,

Mr Parker

(Thank you to Teddy, Mollie and Hugo- you look “paw-some”!)
