Carnival Help from ALL parents!!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As part of this year’s carnival, we are celebrating local heroes and keyworkers. Please may we request any photos of your parents in their work uniforms to use for our display as part of this year’s carnival?

Any parents who are: police officers, fire fighters, doctors, nurses, refuse collectors, teachers, cleaners, caretakers, carpenters, plumbers etc. These will be much appreciated.

Please send your photos directly to Mrs Jukes. The contact e-mail is natalie.jukes@taw.org.uk.

If we could have these photos by Thursday at the latest, this will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you Mrs Jukes

Messy Maths Day

A huge thank you to the staff for their support with Messy Maths Day at NJS. The aim of today was to show children that the maths we learn in school has real-life, practical use outside of the classroom.

Yr 3 spent time looking at position, directions and shape out on the school field. They also spent time looking at coins and how to give change correctly.

Yr 4 spent the morning looking at budgeting in finance. How did they choose to spend their £1,000?

Yr 5 got to draw on the tables! Lines were used to create intersecting angles which children then measured, as well as looking at angles around school.

Yr 6 worked with Mr Yates – a local accountant – who introduced the children to the concept of profit and loss. A farming scenario allowed children to see how money can be made through a process including taxes and investments.

Hopefully the children enjoyed the day and realised that Maths is all around them in life. Please keep an eye on your year groups’ website area to see individual photos from today.

MENTAL HEALTH MONDAY!

Good morning everyone,

I hope that you have had a wonderful half term! This week is one of my favourite activities to do during a busy week at school. During the summer, we often pop outside to complete the grounding technique you will find below!

Simply go for a walk or even find a quiet spot to lie down and follow the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 steps!

Have a lovely week,

Mrs Ollerenshaw x

MENTAL HEALTH MONDAY!

Good morning,

This week you will find a simple breathing activity. Sometimes when we feel a range of emotions, a quick breathing exercise can help us. Following the picture below, you can complete the exercise anywhere and anytime. Have a go and see how it makes you feel!

Have a lovely week,

MENTAL HEALTH MONDAY!

Good morning everyone,

This week I thought I would share a simple activity you could create at home. The emotion wheel below can be used with children of all ages, who are struggling to express their current feelings. The wheel gives children to chance to share how they are feeling and this can open many conversations at home.

Using the wheel on a regular basis will help children see the changing nature of their feelings and can help reduce anxiety around feeling a certain way. You could create the one I’ve provided or even design your own as a family!
