Year 6 Photography trip

Dear Year 6 Parents and Carers,

I am writing to you regarding an exciting opportunity for your children to take part in a visit to Chetwynd Deer Park.

Year 6 children from Newport Junior School will visit the Deer Park to complete a photography workshop. We are incredibly lucky that the Deer Park team offer this opportunity to local schools and the children thoroughly enjoy the experience.

The visit will take place on Thursday 19th May. Children will arrive at school and leave at normal, allocated times. (Please ensure children are in school promptly by 9am as we will need to leave on time). Class 6K and half of 6J will attend the Deer Park in the morning and Class 6B and half of 6J will visit in the afternoon. Children will walk to and from the Deer Park.

All children will require a packed lunch on this date (if your child is in receipt of Free School Meals staff will order a packed lunch from our kitchen for your child). All children will need to wear suitable outdoor clothing including a pair of wellies and waterproofs or sunhat and suncream.

Children are also required to bring a camera for this trip, where they will need to take photos and then select their best one to email to their teacher. (If you are unable to provide your child with a camera or device to take photographs with please email your class teacher so arrangements can be made)

The camera will be the sole responsibility of the child and he/ she must look after it themselves.

Each child will choose their ‘favourite’ photograph and these will be displayed at Newport Show on Saturday 9th July.

Please complete your permissions on Parent Pay by Tuesday 17th May. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to ask myself or a member of the Year 6 team. Thank you for your support.

Year 6 Hoodies: FINAL REMINDER

Year 6 Parents and Carers

THURSDAY is the last day to place your order for your child’s leavers hoodie.

Please ensure you have definitely returned your slip otherwise the PTA will have to make the decision on sizing.

Be careful when choosing your sizing: your children may grow between now and their arrival in May!  Unfortunately there will be nothing we can do if incorrect sizes are ordered.

Thank you to our wonderful PTA for organising our leavers hoodies.

6J – Learning About Measure

6J have started a new unit in Maths this week: Measure! During this learning they will be looking at different units of measure, converting between units of measure and applying their skills to real-life scenarios. Here are a few images from Lesson 1 where we looked at Metric vs Imperial, as well as which units of measure are used for which purpose.

You could help at home by getting your child to find some items that are measured in grams, litres, centimetres etc and ask them to convert into kilograms, millilitres, millimetres.

Y6 SATs Workshop Video

Under normal circumstances, the Y6 team would host a SATs Workshop in the school hall to give parents/carers important information about the upcoming SATs tests.

With restrictions in place this was not possible this year, so we have filmed the workshop for you to watch instead. The powerpoint slides are also attached for you to access. These cover the access arrangements of the tests, the timetable for the week, example questions and how you can further support at home.

We hope that this helps to answer any queries you or your child may have, however please speak to a member of staff if there is anything else you would like to know.

Best wishes,
