Class 3P Visit to Chetwynd Deer Park Tuesday 14th October – a.m.

Dear Parents and Carers,

On Tuesday 14th October, Class 3P will be visiting Chetwynd Deer Park, to take part in a 2 hour nature activity session. We will be leaving promptly on Tuesday at 9am, so please ensure your child is on time.

We will be walking up to the pedestrian entrance (off Chester Road, opposite Deer Park Drive).  Please check the weather forecast on the day and dress accordingly. Children need the following:

  • wear suitable clothing and footwear for the outdoor activities (no jeans please). It may be long, wet grass / some mud, potentially.
  • a waterproof (if possible) jacket /coat as we will be outside regardless of the weather.
  • a change of footwear for when they are back in class in the afternoon

The children will leave their school bags here at school, but may take their water bottle and suitable snack.

Lunchtime will take place at school as normal. The session is free of charge. Most children’s parents have now given consent, however any children without consent will remain in school with the other classes in Year 3.

As always, if you have any questions, please ask and I will be happy to help

Thank you for your continued support,

Mrs Porteous

World Mental Health Day assembly

Today we have marked World Mental Health Day at NJS. We began the day with a special assembly lead by The Guardians of Safety. Please see the attached slides which were shared with the children.

This afternoon, each class has done something a little bit different. They have discussed ‘what fills up their cup’ and then spent time doing these things. Look out for photos on year group website pages!

Important Safeguarding Notice: Children’s “Spy Dog / Spy Pup / Spy Cat” Books

We want to make you aware of a recent issue affecting some popular children’s books by Andrew Cope, including the Spy DogsSpy Cats, and Spy Pups series.

Some editions of these books include a printed web address at the back. This link used to go to the author’s website, but the domain is no longer under his control. It has since been taken over by another party and now leads to inappropriate adult content.

The publisher, Puffin, has paused sales and distribution of the books and is working with schools, libraries, and retailers to remove copies from circulation. They have stressed that the website has no connection to the author or publisher.

What this means for you:

  • If your child has any Spy DogSpy Cat or Spy Pups books at home, please check the back for website links and make sure they do not try to visit the site.
  • It is safe for children to continue reading the stories themselves — the concern is only with the outdated link.
  • We recommend talking with your child about the importance of not following web addresses in books without checking with an adult first.
  • Should you have any questions or require any further support please do not hesitate to contact us at educationsafeguarding@telford.gov.ukWe will continue to share updates from the publisher as more information becomes available.

Class 3B Deer Park Visit photos

3B had a fab time at the Deer park, learning about farming methods and different vegetables, types of deer, antlers, and tree types. And we did get to see a couple of deer too!
