5N Beech’s Base

A reminder for 5N that we have Beech’s Base this afternoon!

Children can come to school wearing their clothes for Beech’s Base and bring a spare set of clean clothes to change into if they wish. Although the weather is lovely today, please remember to keep arms and legs covered and bring gloves if you have them 😊

Shropshire Cricket Fun

For the next few weeks, we are lucky enough to have Ryan Lockley into school with us, one of the Shropshire Cricket coaches. Ryan will be working with Y3 and Y5 children, helping them improve their cricket skills. Mr Moody, Mr Leonard and I might even learn some new skills hopefully.

Mental Health Awareness Week!

In year 5, we have had a lovely week looking at things we can do to support our mental health. We also looked at being kind to ourselves and understanding ‘what makes you… you’! This has been really powerful with the children to think positively. They should be extremely proud of themselves!

Art Club Trip To Fordhall Organic Farm

The art club children have all had a fabulous trip at Fordhall farm in Market Drayton today. We have learnt all about how organic crops grow. The children were able to collect eggs from the community garden & enjoyed learning about cows, lambs & pigs. In the afternoon we have really enjoyed sketching the river & piglets too. Well done to all the children, Ms Branton & Ms Anderson for a fabulous day.

Year 5 Mosque Trip!

What a brilliant and informative trip year 5 children have had visiting a local mosque. The children’s behaviour was impeccable and they should be extremely proud of themselves. They asked very inquisitive and appropriate questions and drew lots of similarities and differences between Islam and many religions such as Christianity.

This trip will certainly help build our learning as we continue Islam for the rest of the summer term.

Mosque trip 16.05.23! Reminders for children…

The children will be attending Wellington Islamic Mosque. This trip has been set up through our link with Hollinswood Multicultural Service and has been planned to follow up on the Year 5 Beliefs and Values topic of Islam. Children will be attending during the afternoon and therefore, will have lunch as normal at NJS.

During the visit the children will have an opportunity to explore the Mosque, making comparisons between the building and a Christian church, ask questions to the Imam and also be able to make links between the classroom based learning they have done and what this looks like in reality.

For the upcoming visit to the mosque, the children will be required to come to school prepared with the following:

  1. School uniform is appropriate for visiting the mosque however as much skin as possible needs to be covered. For example: tights to be worn, leggings, jumpers/cardigans (down to wrists).
  2. The girls are required to wear a headscarf to cover their hair. Boys are required to bring a hat or cap to cover their hair also.
