Carnival Help from ALL parents!!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As part of this year’s carnival, we are celebrating local heroes and keyworkers. Please may we request any photos of your parents in their work uniforms to use for our display as part of this year’s carnival?

Any parents who are: police officers, fire fighters, doctors, nurses, refuse collectors, teachers, cleaners, caretakers, carpenters, plumbers etc. These will be much appreciated.

Please send your photos directly to Mrs Jukes. The contact e-mail is natalie.jukes@taw.org.uk.

If we could have these photos by Thursday at the latest, this will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you Mrs Jukes

Y4 Messy Maths Day

Y4 will be doing something a little bit different tomorrow as we look at the practicalities of life for Messy Maths Day! The children will focus on budgeting, saving and thinking about how to spend money wisely in their activities across the day. It will also reward problem solving and excellent teamwork. Look out for photos across the day on the school website.

Activities will mostly be outdoors so just making sure that children have got suncream on and hats if they wish but normal uniform otherwise.  We are looking forward to what should be an exciting day.

Mr Marsh, Mrs Jukes and Mr Parker.

Y4 Multiplication Check

Once the children return to school after half term, the testing window for the Year 4 MTC will be open.

The testing window will take place from Monday 5th June until Friday 16th June. Children will be completing the test in small groups using school iPads. Children have had opportunities to practise completing the MTC several times prior to the official check taking place so should feel comfortable with the set up.

If you would like to help support your child with this at home, please encourage the use of TTRS – this will have been set by the class teacher to target specific questions which the children can improve their recall on.

Help with tables at home – NJS You can also make use of some resources from this booklet which includes lots of tips to help your child with their fluent recall of all times tables.

We are very proud of our Yr 4 children and we know that they will all take this as an opportunity to shine in their maths, as they have been all year.

If you have any questions regarding the MTC Framework then please speak to myself (Y4 Maths Lead) or to Mr Jones (Whole School Maths Lead)

We have really enjoyed our surprise visit from a Juno Helicopter!

4J absolutely loved learning facts about the Juno helicopter, meeting the crew and getting to sit inside. What an exciting morning!

Y4 Church Trip

Next Wednesday (17th) Y4 have an exciting trip to St Peter & St Paul RC Church in Newport. We will be walking to and from and the church with NJS staff. Please see attached letter for more details.

Year 4 at The Chetwynd Deer Park

Year 4 have thoroughly enjoyed their trip at the Deer Park today. We enjoyed pond dipping, guessing natural objects hidden in boxes & learning about edible bugs & the amount of protein they provide us. All the children had a fantastic time.

Yr 4 Parents – Important MTC Info

2023_Information_for_parents_Multiplication_tables_check_Nov_22_PDFA

Every year, children in Yr 4 across the nation will complete an official Multiplication Tables Check – MTC. This check is designed to assess whether children can fluently recall their times tables up to 12 x 12, which is essential for success in mathematics.

Children in Yr 4 have been learning their tables regularly, as part of the national curriculum and lots of hard work has been going into making sure they are ready to complete the MTC. Yr 4 staff have been setting challenges, making use of TTRS, singing songs, playing games and much more to ensure that children are as well prepared as they can be for the MTC.

The testing window will take place from Monday 5th June until Friday 16th June. Children will be completing the test in small groups using school iPads. Children have had opportunities to practise completing the MTC several times prior to the official check taking place so should feel comfortable with the set up.

Please see the PDF Document attached which is put out by the Department for Education to inform parents about the MTC.  If you have any questions regarding the MTC Framework then please speak to a member of the Yr 4 teaching team, or to Mr Jones (Maths Lead)
