Yr6 homework due 24.06.19

Literacy the week beginning 24th June will be the completion of work based around journalistic writing. We are entering children’s work in to the Rotary Club competition as part of the Newport Show.

Can all Year 6 children research current news stories in local and national newspapers?

They need to have key facts that explore news stories that interest them, covering a range of topics: sport, environment, local issues, wildlife, agriculture, politics, fashion, music, arts or drama.

Children will be expected to create a whole front page, applying all newspaper report features and ensuring that they create an engaging front cover.

Children are only required to research stories as all written work will be completed in class.

London Day 1

A wonderful but wet first day in London. The rain certainly didn’t dampen the spirits! We walked over 500 steps up to the top of St. Paul’s Cathedral, visited the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London and walked along The Thames for a visit to the park. All of the children have been fantastic and have thoroughly loved their first day!

Yr6 children not going to London

Children not going to London are required to bring in card for art work on Thursday. Any amount of card will be appreciated for the work being completed.

Thank you for your support!

Y6 Photography Workshop

A reminder that any children who attended the Photography workshop last Tuesday are expected to bring their chosen photo to Mr Jones by Tuesday. This needs to be in an electronic format (USB/email) to be copied onto a school computer.

If you are unsure of how to do this please, please ask a member of staff.

Y6 Swimming

Reminder for Y6 children to bring in swimming kits, towels and swimming caps for Monday please. It is advisable that Y6 also bring in PE kits, especially those not going to London on Wednesday.

Year 6 Photography Workshop Tomorrow!

30 Year 6 children are due to attend Chetwynd Park tomorrow morning for the photography workshop.  Please remember appropriate footwear, clothing and your camera!

Y6 photography workshop

For any children who haven’t already returned permission slips please do so as the workshop is on the first day back after half term.

Children attending Deer Park will need to be in school uniform, with sensible walking shoes, a water bottle and a camera.

It is advisable to check weather before arriving at school as sun cream and a hat may needed, or conversely a raincoat may be required.

Y6 half term homework

6S and 6J only:

As a school we are pleased to again enter this year’s carnival procession. The theme for Newport’s 2019 Carnival is ‘Past, Present & Future’. As it is 50 years since man landed on the moon, we thought it would be a super starting point to combine both the celebration of the past, with ideas for the future of space.

We would like the children to make something that will attach to, stick/tape to, or hang from our float. This may be a spacecraft, rocket, planet, solar system, alien, an astronaut or an idea for the future of space.

It can be as big as you can manage, as they will all hopefully be attached to our float and people of course people watching the procession need to be able to see all the creations.

Please bring in to school after half term so we can start to collate them for the carnival.

Many thanks!

6K – you are working on assembly play scripts over the half term as directed by Mrs Kerr.

We hope everyone has a very enjoyable half term!
