Yr 5 Messy Maths

As Monday 5th is Messy Maths day at NJS we thought we we would share what the children will be doing in Maths today.

Please don’t worry – we wont be getting “messy!”

We have set up the classrooms so the children have a messy desk – covered in tape.

The children have been challenged to identify, predict and measure each of the angles.

We have also draw some chalk angles onto the playground for the children to complete the same.

Year 5 Mosque Trip!

What a brilliant and informative trip year 5 children have had visiting a local mosque. The children’s behaviour was impeccable and they should be extremely proud of themselves. They asked very inquisitive and appropriate questions and drew lots of similarities and differences between Islam and many religions such as Christianity.

This trip will certainly help build our learning as we continue Islam for the rest of the summer term.

Mosque trip 16.05.23! Reminders for children…

The children will be attending Wellington Islamic Mosque. This trip has been set up through our link with Hollinswood Multicultural Service and has been planned to follow up on the Year 5 Beliefs and Values topic of Islam. Children will be attending during the afternoon and therefore, will have lunch as normal at NJS.

During the visit the children will have an opportunity to explore the Mosque, making comparisons between the building and a Christian church, ask questions to the Imam and also be able to make links between the classroom based learning they have done and what this looks like in reality.

For the upcoming visit to the mosque, the children will be required to come to school prepared with the following:

  1. School uniform is appropriate for visiting the mosque however as much skin as possible needs to be covered. For example: tights to be worn, leggings, jumpers/cardigans (down to wrists).
  2. The girls are required to wear a headscarf to cover their hair. Boys are required to bring a hat or cap to cover their hair also.

Year 5 Coronation Celebrations

Today, every Year 5 child created a piece of a giant puzzle which is on display in the year 5 block (and in the photo below!) We have also created a profile collage of King Charles III, won prizes in the ‘best crown’ competition, eaten lots of snacks, sung some fabulous songs and had a thoroughly lovely day celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III. Have a wonderful weekend Year 5 and enjoy the bank holiday!

Message for Year 5 children who went to Arthog in March….

This is a message for the children who went to Arthog in March and had to return a day early due to the weather conditions….

Arthog have worked with us to arrange an outreach session at NJS for the children who had a disrupted visit to the Arthog Centre in Wales.

On Friday 23rd June those children will spend the morning, at NJS, with members of the Arthog team.  The climbing tower will be on site and a range of team building activities similar to those that would have taken place on the Friday morning.

This group of children should come to school that morning in old clothes with their trainers.

NJS Swimming Galas at Newport Pool – Yr 5!

Here is a reminder about the Swimming Galas that all children take part in at Newport Pool.

Letter: swimming galas for NJS

Please remember –

We will be leaving NJS at 1.20pm, walking to the pool – the children need to be dressed appropriately. Our swimming time is 2-3pm, you as parents are then welcome to come along and support your child on their given teams date. Children can then be picked up directly from the pool, after their swimming galas. We request that only one adult per child attends to watch the galas – and no photos or video footage to be taken.

The pool have also requested that parents do not arrive too early, another school has the session before us and parents will not be allowed to enter until 2pm due to safeguarding requirements.

Thursday 27th April – Red and Blue House children

Thursday 6th May – Yellow and Green House children

Kindest regards

Mr M
