Year 3 Spellings w/c 16.9.19

Dear Parents,

Apologies for the late posting of this email, and that it is lengthy!

Attached below are the spellings and homework for Year 3 this week.

Year 3 Spellings and homework to be tested 20.9.19

Last Friday, children should have brought home their spellings to learn, for testing towards the end of this coming week. Generally, 3B are tested on a Thursday – Mr Butler’s last day of the week , whereas 3W and 3P generally test on Fridays.

Children have been told which spelling group they are in. Please support your child to learn their spellings through verbally testing them, and written exercises. This can be recorded in their Homework books (orange-coloured A4 books). Occasionally, children will receive similar spellings, as these are part of a nationally standardised list, which all Year 3 children are expected to know.

Children will also be expected to learn selected times tables each week too, again to be tested on a Friday morning. This week, we are revising tables already known – 2x, 5x, and 10x tables. Your child may also need your support with this.

Children will usually receive an additional piece of homework each week for selected subjects, usually, English, Maths or Science. Our Science topic this term is Electricity. Please help your child to design an electrical safety poster showing how to keep safe around electricity and electrical items / sockets. You can do this either on A4 paper or using a computer and own printer. This needs to be handed in by Friday 20th September. Please contact us if you require further information.

Thank you for your support,

The Year 3 team.

Spellings due Wednesday 18th

To support with understanding definitions for spellings, the ‘Collins children’s cobuild dictionary’ is a very useful tool.

Due to the changes in the Literacy curriculum children in Year 6 are expected to be secure with all KS2 spellings. There will be no choice of spellings, in terms of degree of difficulty. All children, of all abilities, need to learn the following for next week:
actual learn
early group
heard circle
often build
eight eighth

There may be some children who have different spellings, please check book if this applies to your child.

Homework for Wednesday 18th

Read at least 3 times and ask an adult to sign your reading diary to confirm.

Learn your spellings. Complete detailed sentences and definitions in your homework book.

Complete the maths activity – negative numbers.
2/3* complete the questions practising use of negative numbers.
1* order negative numbers, using the negative/positive number line for support.

P.E and reminders!

Next week we request the children bring their P.E kit in on Monday and it remain at school until we have completed our P.E session.

They will be swimming on Tuesday and must bring a swimming cap!

Also, homework will be handed out on Monday ready to be returned Thursday or Friday.

Please can we remind children to continue reading to adults at home (at least 3 times over a week).

UPDATE: SCHOOL OPEN TOMORROW

Dear Parents and Carers,

Please can I thank you all for your support today.  We do apologise for the inconvenience caused and are really grateful to you all.

The good news is that power is now on!  The support team are checking phone lines and networks but we will be open as usual tomorrow.

Thank you again.

URGENT UPDATE re no electricity

Following the advice of Telford and Wrekin Council and school Governors we are going to ask that if you are able to collect your child please do so.

The school continues to have no power and Western Power have advised this will take several hours to resolve. The implications of no power mean it is going to be safer and more comfortable for your child to be at home.

Don’t worry about any children that cannot be collected: the Victorian block does have power and the catering team are kindly making packed lunches for any who were expecting a cooked meal. Of course staff will supervise these children until the end of the day if necessary.

When you collect your child please enter through the Security Gate at the front of school which will be manned by staff who will direct you. You will also need to leave through this gate.

Please share this message with friends who may not have seen it.

Please expect further news later in the day on our website and Facebook page.

We apologise for the inconvenience in this situation.
