Bake With Miss J – Muffins!

Bake With Miss J – Week 2! This week I have been making Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins… they went down a treat with Mr Parker and Mrs Jukes! A short video has been made to show each stage…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOliKAmatNE&feature=youtu.be

PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE AN ADULT SUPPORT/HELP WITH USING THE OVEN, MICROWAVE OR WHEN HANDLING HOT TRAYS.

100g softened butter (I use stork or the supermarket equivalent)

2 medium eggs

225g self-raising flour

3 tablespoons milk

100g chocolate chips

175g unrefined golden caster sugar

1 teaspoon baking powder

2 bananas (mashed)

Set your oven to 180 degrees, 160 degree (Fan) or gas mark 4.

  1. Place 12 muffin or big cupcake cases into a tray and set aside.
  2. Mix together the butter and sugar until smooth.
  3. Add in 2 eggs and mix briefly.
  4. Add in the self-raising flour, baking powder and mashed bananas. Mix together until smooth.
  5. Add in the milk and chocolate chips and mix for a final time.
  6. Add the mixture into each cupcake case. For this stage I use an ice-cream scoop and fill it twice. You could put two heaped spoons into each case.
  7. Place the tray into the oven and bake for 25 minutes.
  8. After 25 minutes, place a skewer or small knife into the middle of a muffin. If the skewer or knife is clean (no runny mixture), your muffins are ready. If not, bake for 2 more minutes at a time until they are full cooked.
  9. Cool down in the tray for at least 15-20 minutes. Then transfer onto a cooling rack.

If you decide to make these muffins, please do send an e-mail to Eloise.jones@taw.org.uk – I would love to see how they turn out!

Stay tuned for another recipe next Friday!

Year 4 – Interventions

Good Morning Year 4,

Some of the children receive interventions during their English sessions at school. If your child usually has an intervention with Ms Anderson or Mrs Fellows, we will be trying to continue these on TEAMS.

If your child is invited, you should receive an invite on TEAMS to the sessions. They will mirror the lessons in school at 10-15 minutes long. Any children who usually attend and are in school, will still have access.

Many thanks,

The Year 4 Team!

Bake With Miss J!

Hello everyone!

In the last lockdown I used some of the time to experiment and explore with my baking. I did a few live sessions of Facebook which were brilliant! This time, I have decided to add a short video to go with a new recipe! This means you can bake at a time that is convenient to you.

This week, I made Viennese Biscuits (see the recipe below). Baking is a great way to involve the family and the end result is always delicious!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l99s20gC78c&feature=youtu.be

PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE ADULT SUPPORT/HELP WITH USING THE OVEN, MICROWAVE OR WHEN HANDLING HOT TRAYS.

200g softened butter (I use stork)

100g icing sugar

1 teaspoon of vanilla

250g plain flour

1 tablespoon of milk (maybe 2 if required)

For the decoration: 50g of chocolate (I use milk but you could use white or dark)

  1. Set your oven to 180 degrees, 160 degree (Fan) or gas mark 4.
  2. Set 1 or 2 baking trays on the side and place a piece of grease proof paper on top.
  3. In a bowl or standing mixer, beat together the butter and icing sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the flour and vanilla and continue to beat until it resembles a crumble.
  5. Start off by adding 1 tablespoon of milk and beat the mixture until the crumbs stick together. You may need to add another tablespoon or two depending on how stiff the mixture is.

If possible…

  1. Place the mixture into a piping bag and pipe into biscuits on the prepared baking trays.

If not possible…

  1. Take a spoon and place a spoonful of mixture on the tray. You may wish to press down so it flattens the mixture.

Bake for 15 minutes until lightly golden… do not worry if they seem pale. These biscuits are usually pale but DELICIOUS! Once baked, let the biscuits cool down.

To decorate:

  1. With an adult, melt the 50g of chocolate.
  2. Dip the biscuit into the chocolate to form a coating OR spoon the mixture on.

If you don’t want a lot of chocolate… melt 25g and drizzle the chocolate on top!

If you decide to make these biscuits please do send an e-mail to Eloise.jones@taw.org.uk – I would love to see how they turn out!

Stay tuned for another recipe!
